Looks like Tweety will do well at the 1.25 for now. I was feeling comfortable leaving her home while I head to work. Especially since hubby can give her a snack in 2 hours. :) but right before I left she was at 180 which worries me. I know there are bounces, etc. and we are just heading into understanding the depot but I feel most comfy at this dose. Hopefully they vet agrees. If not, I will try 1.5 once I get a Freestyle 3 on her and her numbers support it/I *feel* good about an increase.

Hopefully we are getting to a get place! I am feeling more optimistic overall but today is nerve wracking a touch.

The support here has been UNREAL... I am so thankful to have found you. Yes, I admit it was hard and overwhelming at first, but to anyone new reading this - just take your time and ask for help. People here are great!!

Hi Teya, you're doing great. Good your husband can give her a snack. You may want to get an automatic self feeder. Lots of us use them while we need to be out, especially if you work outside of the home. They are great and the cats can get used to eating from them easily. You can feed wet food and they come with ice packs you put in the bottom to keep food cold and fresh. Many of us use a Cat Mate but there are others available and easy to find.
Hope Tweety surfs safely today :bighug::bighug:

Oh I wish... we have a greedy cat who is also a bully. So we would not know if Tweety actually gets the food UNLESS we close off one of the two. Which if we have to we will.

I may have once again overreacted as when I got home she is now at 299. Damn.

Get this -- the vet called and looked at her numbers wanting to go to 2u!! I said no and explained if we go up at all it will only be to 1.5 which she said I could try over the weekend if her numbers do not improve by Thursday night. I work a half day Friday so I could be home if we were to go up to 1.5 to see if that is better for her. She said (technician) that it should be clear by Sunday if 1.5 is better or not. Hmmm. Much to consider.

Hi all - the vet reviewed Tweetys Libre today and called to suggest going to 2u.

I let her know there was no way I was comfortable as we are only at 1.25 right now. I let her know we are using a big lighted magnifying glass now to measure it.

The tech actually agrees that if anything we will go to 1.5 max starting Thursday as she felt by then we will know if 1.25 is enough or if the original 1.5 should be given.

She also said Thursday night to SUnday night is enough time to know if that is a proper dose. I asked about the lantus depot and how long it should really be given (a particular dose to know for sure) and she said 3-7 days.

Since Tweety is only a couple days into 1.25 I think I should give it more time. I kind of wish I had not been so damn hasty Sunday night. I wish I had not dropped her - but then this morning she read at 180 and was heading down right before I left. So confusing but I will stay the 1.25 course at least until Thursday night and review then/see how we feel.

If you’re following SLGS you need to hold the dose for 1 week minimum before considering a dose increase.

Thank you - that would be next Sunday evening. So I think it is ok to keep her here so long as nothing crazy happens. They just increased her on Friday to 1.5 - seems too soon to decide anything, but they may want to be more agressive than I want to be.

I have a new question: Does your kitty out of nowhere go low before shots? I don't get why this is happening.

Typically Tweety would get fed at 6 am - spoke just before taking her into the 300s.

Then it would come down to high 100s to 200s and then spike again to 300s at dinner.

This back and forth high then lower before shots is weird. I wonder if this is her body starting to level out? Meaning maybe she will not spike as high and just begin to hang out in the 100s and 200s. I could only hope.

One vet said the goal is 70-120 and the specialist said no it should be 100-300. So for me I would be most comfortable seeing her in between. Thanks for listening and any feedback.

The 1.25 unit dose has not been given long enough for us to see what it can do. There has been too much changing of dose previously to stabilize the depot. When following SLGS you hold the dose for 7 days. Even if you were following the more aggressive TR, the numbers she's getting would have you stick with 1.25 units for 5 days.

The SLGS goals is to have her nadirs between 90 and 149. Which is sort of the middle you talked about.

Your ultimate goal is 70-120 which would be normal BG for a cat. The BG will get higher by preshot much of the time when not regulated. If lower at preshot it’s a late nadir. Sometimes cats have a second nadir before shots. As she gets regulated the insulin will have longer duration and you often see flat cycles. You really want to be under renal threshold so definitely under 300.
I suggest you look at other spreadsheets when you have some tone. It helps to see what a regular looks like and what the spreadsheet of others starting out look like.

OK, this is helpful. I will stick with the 1.25. I just am not used to seeing it go all over the place. I'll stay the course. Thank you again .

Yes... thank you for that reminder! I was going to do that today but I will in the morning or later. Long 2nd day at work. New job training is overwhelming at times. I'll stay the course, log the levels, and check out other spreadsheets.

Say... when you don't have a Freestyle Libre how do you know the nadir??

Well, I was a testaholic. I tested from preshot to +4-5. I followed TR though. The Libre was not around then. With SLGS you reduce if under 90 so I’d test at +2 and get a later test at different times in the cycle between +5+7. You do a curve every 7 days to catch hopefully the nadir. .

I wasn't as much of a testaholic. Test strips are a lot more expensive in Canada, though I did get some sent from the US, I couldn't just step out the door and get some. So I tried to be strategic and learn Neko's patterns. Patterns which went over a few cycles. My DH joked that I was "reading the tea leaves" as I stared at her spreadsheet before bed trying to figure out if and when I needed to get up and test again. Neko wasn't that consistent with her nadirs in the beginning, but a much predictable over time and when on Levemir.
