Nice start today. Now that she's in better numbers, she might not need as much food. Before diabetes was she a grazer or did she eat her meal all at once?

I guess more of a grazer. She would come when i put down the dry twice a day and lick at the wet now and then. Things have changed a lot since i lost my cat Lina who had severe IBD and would eat enormous amounts of food. When she passed i realized that the other cats were barely eating at all and didnt particularly like anything I was putting down. Its been a tough transition trying to figure out what everyone likes.
I have 6 cats.
Hershey (14) is in his own room because he is semi feral and has some liver condition that we cant quite get a handle on and has to be medicated. Then he developed blood clots when they drew blood last time, and couldnt walk for a few days.
Tulip (around 8) has mild CKD and some other issues, allergies, anxiety. Shes on Hydrolyzed dry in a microchip bowl. She will eat a little wet.
Sophie (15) eats dry in a microchip bowl but hasnt really been eating a lot of that lately. She likes wet food.
Oscar (14) (Hersheys brother, but not feral) is my 19 pounder that likes dry but will eat some wet, so since i need to stop Karamelle's dry, I might try and stop his as well because he really needs to lose some weight.
And then theres Julie (1 1/2). Shes my young cat that will barely eat any wet (believe me I tried) so she has a microchip bowl with dry in it.

That's quite the crew of cats! You have your hands full.

Moving Oscar to wet will help his weight. In Neko's time, I adopted a 17lb kitty who had been at the shelter for 6 years, :(, but he managed to slim down nicely eating the same as Neko. He was a semi feral who turned into my most affectionate kitty ever.

Ive known I need to cut out the dry for Oscar for some time. Other things just got in the way of monitoring it.

On another note. Karamelle's +5 is 48!!! She ate a little but just not the whole portion again. I have to take Sophie to the vet for her acupuncture at 2. I will test Karamelle again when I get back. I guess this means we go down to 1 unit for PM dose.

Can you give Karamelle some high carb food? Yes, you really do need to reduce the dose. This is what I was worried about. Glad you caught that 48. You shouldn't be leaving her until she's above 50.

I just got home and tested her at +6.5 and she was 81. She wouldnt eat so I syringe fed her around a half a can. I'll test again in another hour or so.
I was discussing Karamelle with Sophies vet whos doing her acupuncture. I was just curious what his opinion was. He isnt Karamelle's vet. He said he usually recommends testing every couple of days!!! And thought the right dose for Karamelle would be 2.5 units!!! No wonder cats have problems with diabetes, if they are following that advice. I just smiled and said that I am working with you guys on this and just need to find what works best for Karamelle. Hes a nice guy, but I certainly am glad Im not taking his advice.

No need to feed her any more. It's after nadir and you want her to be a bit hungry for dinner.

I don't want to think what 2.5 units would do.

Do you mean no food till her PMPS? I don't work so my shot times are 8:30 am & pm. I syringe fed her at about 3:15pm. I probably wasn't going to give her anything until after the PMPS anyway. I'm just worried I'm not going to get enough calories in her without the dry food. She's had.approx 90 calories so far today. There's really only two more feedings. I leave Fancy Feast down over night but I have no clue if she eats any of it. A lot of times there's still some left in the morning. She had gained weight recently. I'd hate to see her lose it again.

She will eat the YA dry food willingly?
Probably, I havent tried. She did eat tho. She ate some food (which was weruva and fussy cat) in someone elses bowl at around +8 or so and then again, ate almost a half a pouch of weruva after her PMPS, which was 70. I lowered the dose to 1 unit.

If you are following SLGS, you aren't supposed to shoot if they are below 90. Be very vigilant tonight. I'd start with a +1 and a +2 to see how the cycle will go.

Oh geez, I didn't know I was supposed to skip the dose. Ok I will do a couple more tests tonight. Thanks. Even tho I've read about what SLGS and TR are, I still don't really understand it. So not sure I'm following anything to be honest.

Can you stay up for a while yet to monitor her yet? I'm a little worried she's still dropping and it's early in the cycle. If she gets much lower, you definitely want to feed high carb food to keep her above 50. This Sticky Note tells you what to do should she go below 50.

Of course I never bought any of the high carb foods, but I do have some honey. It says I can use that. Is it low enough to do that now, or should I test her again first. It mentions giving stuff if its below 50.
She seems ok. Doesnt have any of those symptoms on the list. Shes just sleeping at the moment, but when I woke her up she seemed fine.

I decided to give her a little honey. Just dipped the tip of my finger in it and put it on her gums. A short while after, she went racing into the other room to scratch on the scratch pad. Sugar rush?? Then I tried to feed her. Had to move the bowl about 4 different times and finally, with me still holding the bowl and hardly breathing, she ate over a half pouch of weruva. I'll test one more time, if its up, I'll feel like its ok to go to bed.

Her BG might drop again after the honey wears off which is around 2 hours after she's had it. How long since she had the honey?

Just did it. +4 - 73 I will see if i can drag myself downstairs for another test in a couple of hours. I usually wake up every 2 hours to pee anyway.
A test after a couple of hours would be good. Drink a huge glass of water before going to bed. ;)

Will she eat if you leave out some food for her?
