2/4 Tiger Amps 481,+5 215, 7.25 116, +8.25 98 , 8.5 87

Come down slowly Tiger now that you've got more insulin in you. Hope you had a good sleep last night Deb.

Downward all day…

exactly where we were yesterday at this time!

4% not slowing the dive, so any suggestions? I gave 20% yesterday and that was wrong I was told, so need to know.

last night he didn’t come up high enough at ps to shoot and I would like to give full dose tonight.

I’m sorry I just saw this. Was not on when you posted :(

I posted about 2 hours ago and watched people post but ignore me, so I just wanted to check. We went so low it’s another reduction.

Wendy told me I fed to high yesterday but I fed lower carb today and it’s just going down. She really confused me.
I guess I’ll give up asking questions..

Don’t stop asking questions. Absolutely not.
I think you want to feed lower carbs later in his cycle.
He’s breaking a bounce and has downward momentum. It seems to be his trend.
See where he goes before it’s time to shoot. And if you can stall a little at that time to see if he’s going up that may work.
I know it’s tricky with his tummy issues.
Maybe @Wendy&Neko is available to help? We can try to see if she gets this to guide you.

Sorry no one got back to you in time. The weekends can be quieter. I too was not on. Here are a couple tips that can help your thread get attention.

First, go to the main ISG page https://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/#insulin-support-groups-isg.3 On the top right is a list of members online right now. You can try tagging one of those people if you know they are a Lantus person. If you click on their name you can get some information about them, such as when they started here which can tell you if they have experience.

Second, try to phrase the question on the subject line to be more explicit. "dropping question" doesn't sound urgent "need help now with what to feed" does.

Third, when you've got time, visit other people's threads, especially people who are new, and if you see the numbers are dropping. They are likely asking the same sorts of questions. It took forever for Neko to finally show me some green - I had plenty of time to read other members threads and learn. Which was handy because no one was around the first time she went under 50. But I'd seen enough and read the Sticky Notes enough time that I knew what to do. You might also want to look at posts of other people following SLGS and using the Libre. @Staci & Ivy is one such regular poster.

More correctly, I said that late in the cycle, when kitty is flat, try to avoid 20% if you can. You had given 20% at +10.25. Remember that numbers can be within meter variance. Something that is 10-15% within the next or previous number can very well be flat. And we try to avoid giving carbs in the last two hours of the cycle when you are new, to try to avoid low preshot numbers that are influenced by carbs. In such a situation, you don't know if it's then safe to shoot.

Good luck with the new dose. I think he wanted that reduction.

Thanks Wendy. The 20% at 10.25 was a last ditch effort to get height enough to shoot, figuring we could shoot 15 mins late if needed.
My real concern is he is not responding to LC and mc when he is going low. It has no effect it seems, that’s the scary part.
Not too long ago I would see a jump in bg when I fed him those but not lately.

I wonder why he’s not responding to the carbs.

I’m sorry I did not see your post but I was helping with a SS and didn’t look into this forum.

Bounce clearing cycles can be very active and, often, the lowest number is at the next PS so that’s why you didn’t see a nadir today earlier in the cycle like you might expect. Besides what Wendy said about trying to avoid feeding 20% late in the cycle when he’s at a good BG, we also do not feed to prop up the BG for the preshot when he’s at a very safe number…..even if you are thinking you will stall a bit. In addition, you primarily want to feed HC food earlier in a cycle to slow down a fast drop or when safety starts to become an issue.

If a kitty is in the 40s on a human meter after +10, we might feed a tsp or two of LC to start and if the BG doesn’t come up, we might have to feed a little more LC. But we don’t want to feed HC unless we are continuing to see a drop to low 40s or below because the BG should generally start to come up as the previous dose wears off. But if it doesn’t start to come up and continues to drop to low 40s, it’s time to pull out the big guns.

He wasn’t that low at +8.5 but the meter already told you he earned a reduction when he dropped below 90 so your instincts to reduce were spot-on.

Good luck with the new dose!

Wow Deb, looks like Tiger was determined to get that reduction! I know how scary it is for you, but remember, his pancreatitis is healing in those good numbers! I am also sorry you did not get a reply when you posted, I am wondering if you have seen that sticky that was written about the Tool Kit for handling low numbers? You are doing a great job, testing, being aware of the drops and please, do not quit asking questions or posting here! Feline Diabetes is a complicated disease, plus insulin, being a hormone, doesn't work the same way every time you shoot.

I hope Tiger's tummy is feeling better and I hope that you will get a good night of sleep tonight. That makes everything better! BTW, I am right there with you, 66 and I will turn 67 in August, so I know how much harder it is now as to 10 years ago! Take good care of yourself!!! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thanks Ruth, I love hearing from you.
Yes I know about the tool kit but for some reason he has not been very interested in food and the LC and mc haven’t been doing much when he dives. We had to use karo a few nights back. Hopefully his blood test results will give us an idea of what’s going on.

Have a wonderful night!

Great job, Deb. You’re doing such a fantastic job with Tiger. Please keep asking for help and asking questions.
Ruth is right about how hard to get on top of all of this. Especially in the beginning.
We have all been in your shoes and understand how you feel.
Keep doing everything you can for your sweet boy. You’re a great Mom.
I hope you have a good sleep tonight :bighug::bighug::bighug:
