2/3 Tiger Amps 415, +6.5 127, +8 105, 99+8.5 +10.25 90. Why is this happening every cycle?

Stayed pretty level in the 200s last night.

He really zonked out last night, almost coma like. I had a hard time even waking him. A bit scary but I guess it was the gaba. He was a zombie when we went to bed! I think we need to adjust dose a bit.

Everyone have a sweet Saturday and safe surfing!

Hi Deb, I’m glad you all got some sleep last night. Very much needed. Even Tiger. Sounds like the gaba may be making him sleepy if he’s not used to that medication.
When I give it to Ivy to take her to the vet (high doses needed) she comes home and sleeps like a log.
Wishing you a calm and steady day and night tonight :bighug::cat::bighug:

Actually I only got 3 hours sleep with the drop scare and more so making sure he woke up and ate his food at 4 am to keep tummy happy.
I figured it was the meds but it really put him out too hard. Not sure I want to give it 2x a day and have him out of it all the time. It didn’t help him eat, he was too sleepy to eat, which was the reason to give it.

ty and enjoy your date tonight!

Hi Deb, What is the dose you’re giving? Maybe it’s too much for him. Poor sweet boy. So sleepy. You’re such a good mama. I’m sorry you hardly slept.

Do you mean the 170 nadir he had last night?
That was a nice blue nadir. And he’s seeing some beautiful blues today, too!

Try to relax as much as you can.
I hope tonight is a smooth cycle. Hugs for you and Tiger :bighug::bighug::bighug:

It’s liquid and dose is 1-2 ml. We gave 1.2 ml. They gave first dose at vet in pill form, not sure the dose.

yes the 170 is great it was just the quick dive he did to get there.

He’s actually going down as we speak. At 105 now. At least it’s day time not middle of the night!

He’s at 95 now. I don’t want to take another reduction as we’ve done 2 already in the last 5 days! What is going on??

Looks like another reduction coming, giving 20% food.

I just wish I knew what’s going on! We been at this dose before and had hi numbers!

He has to go under 90. Hold the line Tiger!

There could be some pancreatic healing going on, hence the need for less insulin. :) There may be a little bit of the 2 unit depot helping out the numbers - the larger depot can last 4-6 cycles after a reduction.

He just went up to 124 after the 20% but all this food is adding to his irritated stomach and pancreas. Vet gave us gaba for the tummy irritation but giving it, he goes into a deep sleep and lowers the numbers so we skipped it today.
I don’t think he will get high enough for his insulin tonight, so I’m thinking of skipping it and giving a token dose in the AM to get tummy to settle down. Am I wrong?

I've not heart of gabapentin being given for irritated tummy. You said you are giving 1.2 ml, but what is the concentration of mg per ml?

Part of his problem is he's getting high carb food later in the cycle, which makes his preshot numbers higher (lost duration), and thus he's dropping steeply in the next cycle. If we could get him to a place where his preshots aren't so high, you might not see such a steep drop.

I don’t know the concentration, hubby has been taking care of drugs and he is sleeping now so he can give me a break overnight.
I think we all need a break, tigers tummy and all these bounces and depots to clear. It’s all making him sicker it feels.

His tummy is full all the time and I know he is not going to eat ps. His tummy has had no break for days it seems.

That’s why I think a token dose or no dose for a couple cycles might help more than hurt. Thoughts?

The concentration should be on the bottle.

I think maybe you need to reduce the amount of food you give him at the main meal times, if you are giving him tablespoon size snacks later on. Higher carb snacks should be smaller.

I don't think keeping him deliberately in high numbers for a couple cycles is going to do him any good. You could do a half dose if you want to tonight, to drain that larger depot and get some sleep. Which is sounds like you need.

At meal times he is only eating about a spoon or two because he’s not hungry because he has had so many snacks to bring up numbers. That’s the problem……

It looks like it’s not my decision about tonight, he’s too low to shoot. So it will be a token tonight.
No it really wouldn’t help him to have high numbers but we need to get off this circle of constantly feeding him and give tummy time to rest in between meals I think. It’s a viscous circle and thin line we are walking.

sleep would be wonderful but that’s secondary…Tiger comes first right now.

Thanks Wendy!

Whew! Tiger's had a pretty active day cycle! Well at least he had it during the day instead of at night! Those late nights are killer, I remember!!! I was 10 years younger when I was doing that, I don't think I could stay up that late now, so hats off to you, all of you that persevere!!! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:Do you think he is reacting to something in the high carb foods? Or do you think it is simply the fact that you need to feed the curve and it is off putting for his stomach and leaving him with no appetite for meals? That's what it sounds like to me. Also, that gabepenten can also be an appetite killer as I understand it. Is there something else your vet might suggest, something that doesn't knock him out! :nailbiting: Vines for you and Tiger and I just see you are giving a token dose, so good night and sweet dreams, thank you for all you are doing for Tiger, I know he loves you for it!!!

At some point, (not tonight, you need the sleep), you will have to shoot lower preshots. Lantus tends to give a lot flatter cycles when you shoot lower numbers. We say that when you have the data to do so, you can shoot lower numbers. Eventually all the way down to a preshot of 90. That's the good thing about the Libre, you have tons of data!

If he's only nibbling at PS time, think about reducing the size of those snacks. The total amount of food he eats during an active cycle shouldn't be more than he'd eat on a normal day or higher cycle.

Ruth just asked an excellent question about high carb food. Many people feed the Fancy Feast higher carb gravy foods, but most of them have wheat gluten in them. Which I found didn't agree with Neko's tummy and I've noticed the same for a few cats here. I ended up going to higher carb foods that used potato as the starch. Some of the Weruva Cats in the Kitchen pouches or the Grandma's Chicken soup at over 20% were what I used.

Thank you Ruth, you’re so sweet.
I don’t know how old you are but I am pushing 70 and it is a killer but you do what you have to.
The feeeding the curve is exactly what’s killing the appetite and irritating the tummy, I think.

I dint realize that gaba killed appetite. We will talk to the vet when we get blood test results.

We love him, he is our baby and the sweetest cat. We’d do anything for him!

To be honest, at this point, I’m not sure I will ever get to that point of shooting that low! My nerves are so rattled after the last couple days, it just scares me. Like I told Ruth, I’m pushing 70 and not as energetic as I was when I was younger!

His total intake is probably about the same as normally was before but in smaller meals which gives the tummy no down time. His weight is holding minus an ounce or two over the whole time.

I guess it’s possible about the gravy/wheat being a problem, although he only gets it when I need to boost the numbers. Which actually has been quite a bit lately.

we did do a token dose of .25u tonight but won’t the depot still be kicking in?

thanks again

Hope you all get some rest tonight Deb. Hang in there sweet Tiger :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Glad you shot something. Depot will kick in either way, that was a big jump to +1! Probably the damage from the 20% you gave at +10. If at all possible, it's best to avoid those late in the cycle feeds, especially high carb. He was flat, he didn't need the boost then. Towards the end of the cycle, the insulin effect is starting to wear off, and it needs less carbs to boost the numbers.

You won't believe it now, but there will be a point when you'll want those lower preshots. I really liked them cause I found the flatter cycles so much easier to predict.

Seems I never choose right. At +10.25 he was at 90 and I was trying to raise it in hopes of being able to shoot tonight and avoid dropping and getting a reduction. I thought I was doing the right thing. He was not hungry and wouldn’t eat the lower % food so I figured it was better than nothing with him being so low. I never will get the hang of this, I don’t think.

All I can do is my best…

thanks

I should. Hubby just got up from napping so he can watch tonight. I desperately need it as I will have the watch for the next 5 nights.
How was your dinner? Hope you enjoyed it!
Hope you got a good sleep. You 2 make a great team. Tiger is very very lucky you are his parents. It does get better with time and learning as Wendy said.
The beginning is the hardest part.
You’re doing great, really. :)

Dinner was nice, thanks :bighug::bighug::bighug:
