Morning

scary night last night. What was so scary is that his numbers fell all day yesterday and continued last night. Food did not affect it all day or last night. 20% even had no effect. Now this morning he doesn’t want to eat…

we decreased his dose to 1.75 due to the 60s last night.

I was so scared last night, I’m not sure how much more I can take before it affects my health. I already take blood pressure meds and breathing meds.

it just doesn’t seem like we are getting anywhere with his FD. I don’t see anyone else here having the problems I am seeing in him. We are going to try to get him into an internist today if possible. I think something else is going on also.

thanks

Oh, Deb I’m sorry it’s been so tough and scary. I’m sending you a huge hug for support and strength.
It’s never bad to see an internist who can look at all of his concerns overall.
The only thing that I can tell you for my own experience is that the beginning of this journey is very overwhelming and extremely scary. I think we have all been through similar feelings to what you are having. But of course it’s so important that you are able to take care of yourself as well. Snd thank goodness you have your husband, who is so helpful in this journey with you.
It is definitely a big learning curve of how to handle this situation and every little step takes time. Nothing happens quickly, so it’s a lot of learning patience. And I know that’s so hard to do. Speaking personally, I get it. We are all here to support you and I hope today is a much brighter day for you and Tiger :bighug::bighug::bighug:

He had a great cycle last night, it is scary at first but that's where you want him to be, in green numbers all the time :bighug:
I know it's hard at first, but look at his SS: he is seeing so much more greens and blues, compared to just a few weeks ago.
Staci is right, it is such a difficult journey at first, but you are doing great with Tiger :bighug::bighug::bighug: I hope all goes well and smoothly and you have a very boring day today

You are just three months into the feline diabetes journey. It may seem like a long time to you so far, but it's really not. :bighug::bighug: Tiger's response to insulin looks a lot like many cats who are fairly newly diagnosed. Last night he spend quite a few hours in the healing green zone.

Going down the dosing scale can be more scary than going up. The tools to help you with that is food, and learning what carbs he needs when. See if you can get some 25% carbs or try the karo again when he's not coming up. Sometimes it'll be too much carbs, but that's also an opportunity to learn what Tiger needs to keep him safe. You did an amazing job last night.

Thank you all for the encouragement.

We got lucky and the internist had a cancellation. Her specialty is cats.

She ran several blood tests and an ultrasound. The ultrasound showed irritation of the tummy and pancreas. She compared it to his last ultrasound last year and said nothing else had changed which was good.

She did two sets of blood tests. A simple one which we will have results today and another they send off. Another test for something they get from the dirt here, forgot what it’s called but can cause these symptoms.

she started him on gabapetin (sp?) for pain as she said he is in pain after eating. Also martizapan (ear applied) appetite enhancer.

She felt the tummy is interfering with the body’s use of insulin and that once corrected it would be easier to regulate his insulin.

That’s all I can think of now as I’m a bit loopy from lack of sleep last night.!

I hope you are getting some sleep today. :bighug:
but can cause these symptoms.
What symptoms are you concerned about? It would be interesting to know the name of the special tests you are getting done.

Is he on any nausea prevention drugs (Cerenia or ondansetron)? Best to take care of any nausea before adding an appetite stimulant, or you can get food aversions.

Good grief, you had quite the night!!! Great job managing, listen, I know how scary it is to see those low numbers :nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting:, but you did a great job! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug: It may seem like you are getting nowhere, but keep in mind , green is healing numbers and gives you experience to see how the high carb food works on dropping numbers. I am wondering the same as Wendy, if your vet tested for pancreatitis and if she prescribed either the Ondansetron or Cerenia. I hope Tiger is feeling better tonight and I hope you get a good well deserved night of sleep! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I see your note that Cerenia was changed to every day. That's good. It just lasts 24 hours so you need to give every day to stay on top of nausea.

I could tell he just hasn’t been himself and appetite has been on and off.
Yes he has been on cerenia for a least a couple years and has managed it. But lately something has been off, so she upped it.

Thanks Ruth but would rather gain that experience during the daylight hours! What bothered me is none of the food was having any affect on the dropping. That scared me…

I too am hoping for a quiet night. Not sure what he’s going to do tho. He had his lower readings again at the end of cycle and start of pm cycle. He was all red all day until then.

Hubby and I both need to sleep tonight.

One other thing to note about his lower than he's used to numbers last night. Besides the expected bounce, you might find that when he's in lower numbers than he's used to that he does seem a bit off. I liken this to someone who is used to several cups of caffeine per day (high blood sugar) and when you reduce it to just a cup (normal BG numbers) they don't feel so food. Neko hid under the bed the first few times she spent any time in the greens. She would play in low pinks  and be grumpy in green. Thankfully over time play time became low blues and greens and she was in a funk when in pinks. Also, when in normal number they aren't going to be as hungry as in high numbers, because the insulin is letting them process the food they are eating better.

I've got my fingers crossed for some good sleep for you tonight. Bounces gotta be good for something!

Thanks Wendy, good to know.

As far as sleep, we may be in for another rough night, he’s dropped 100 in the last hour. Here we go again…

Brat! A drop is expected at onset, and the higher they start at preshot you will see a bigger drop. Hopefully he'll slow down the next hour.

Good morning, Deb. I hope last night was ok for all of you and you got some sleep. Hope Tiger is feeling better with the Cerenia change in his system.
Sending you best wishes for an easy day and night ahead :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Tysm Staci. I got a few hours sleep. Hubby took first couple hours then I took over. Of course as soon as I took over, he dropped 50 points…
