Good morning

I don’t know what’s going on! Crazy high this morning. I even got up at +8 and gave him 3% pate so he wouldn’t eat his auto kibble.. he’s not wanting to eat this morning and acts like his tummy is upset. Numbers are just all over the place lately. Guess I need to stop changing his food around.

Have a good Thursday everyone…..

Good morning, Deb. He’s probably bouncing from those nice blues yesterday if I had to guess. Which is very normal for a very newly diagnosed kitty. And you’re still trying to work out food, tummy issues and finding a good dose. It’s a lot going on and takes time to get things in some sort of balance.
Hang in there. You’re going great. I hope Tiger slides down gently today and you have a calm day :bighug::bighug::bighug:

:bighug: :bighug: :bighug:
Oh, Tiger! It's going to be OK. Everyone take a breath and try to relax.

Managing FD is quite the journey and not always easy. It is chaotic. I just realized I won't be able to attend the high school musical and it's the last show our neighbor's daughter will be in as the lead (Mama Mia) since she graduates high school this year. All the shows are at 7pm.

Hang in there! :cat:

Hi Staci

seems like he’s bouncing every night from the days numbers! Is that even possible?
Wishing you and Ivy a great Thursday!

Hi Joni! It just seems endless ! But thanks for the pep talk.

That’s awful you can’t attend your friend in her farewell performance! There must be a way to work it out somehow. Such a great show that is and it would do you good to get to enjoy it.

Hope you and Leo have a fantastic day and he eats well today!

Thank you! You, too!

As far as the show, even if I only get to the 2nd half....

Funny thing about my neighbors.... when they moved in five years ago, they thought they lost one of their cats.... and the furniture wasn't even delivered yet. So we made signs and put them all over the neighborhood.... they searched all through their empty house...again. No kitty. .... Their 12-yr old daughter was crying (this is the Sophie character in Mama Mia)... and finally she was found! In the house! Kitty found a neat place to hide.... next to the soaking master bathtub near a wall.... quite cleverly hidden. Praise the Lord! No lost kitty, but found safe and sound. ♡♡♡

The daughter graduates high school this year and off to college. She's an amazing girl.... pretty, talented, and sweet.

Yes it's definitely possible for bouncing a lot.
And it' very early in your journey. Can't expect a quick fix overnight, unfortunately. Patience
Most cats don't reverse very quickly. Some do....there are some cases where the cats do turn around, but not the majority.
We all need to learn patience (she says with complete frustration :banghead:)

Hi Deb, I have been watching your journey with your Tiger for awhile now and I wanted to say what a great job you are doing! Feline diabetes is a marathon not a spring, as the wise ones used to always tell me. Your Tiger's SS looked very similar to my Tiger's, except you are seeing a lot of blues and occasional greens whereas my girl was a sea of red and blacks, it used to make me cry until I learned we were not at the right dose. I can see today your boy is heading into blue waters perhaps this evening, I just hope his tummy has settled down.:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug: Hugs and scritches!!

I am so sorry to hear you won't be attending your high school musical!!! I might get scolded for saying this, but on those once in a lifetime occasions, I would skip the PM shot, for example when my nephew got married. I remember one of the old timers was a big Bruce Springsteen fan, she would skip her kitties shot to see those concerts. I'm not telling you what to do, just giving you an option. Your neighbor's daughter sounds like a very talented young woman to have won the lead!!!

Thank you Ruth for taking the time to keep an eye on my Tiger. Tigers are the best aren’t they!?

I appreciate your reassurance, it means a lot and the reminder that it is a slow process. And you’re right, we did just get a blue, barely but a blue.

keep watching and say hello when you do!
Hugs and scritches back to you!

I don’t understand why sometimes he is not getting a food bump? Fed almost two hours ago, mix 14-+3%, and number is about the same as ps. Any idea why this happens, anyone?

He's been breaking a bounce today, which can mean downward momentum in the numbers, that you are seeing tonight. The insulin has now onset and is taking him down.

How long since you last fed? It can be helpful to put the +time and amount of food + LC/MC/HC in the Remarks so we can see when the food was given, how much and what.

How long after the 20% did you test? It can take a cat 20-30 minutes for the carbs from the food to hit the blood stream.

The second Tbsp 15 minuts ago would not have hit the blood stream yet.

I know you can test always with the Libre, just wondering how long after the food the 100 was. Please keep the spreadsheet up to date. I'd like to know what + time the 100 was too.

What helps me is if I can see:
+time, BG value such as +2 212
+time food/amount such as <need +time> 1 Tbsp 20%
+time, BG value
Basically what were the time sequences of test values and food given.

Also, any chance you can test with a hand held meter? We have one member who finds her Libre is quite a bit higher than the hand held so it would be good to know how Tiger compares.

Updated ss a bit, see above for food I gave

too shaking to complete ss

+2 Tbl 20% another +2.3 20%

he’s at 77 now

At what +time is that 77?

77 means a reduction. No, you don't need to go to ER yet. Repeat, any chance of testing with a human meter? If this is anything like Ivy's Libre, he could still be above 100 on a human meter.

Don't stuff him, spread out feeding. No more than 1 Tbsp at a time. You want him to be able to keep eating. Do you have karo, honey or syrup around?

77 was @ +3.75 minus 5 mins

can’t get blood for manual testing, even vet can’t . They use veins

I have all three of those

If I can follow, it's been half an hour since he last ate? If so, try a couple tsps, so less food, with a drop of karo on it. I want to see if that stops him better. Some cats aren't very carb sensitive and their caregivers need to give higher carbs.

Normally I wouldn't suggest karo at this point because he's still safe, but you are worried and I want him to start going the other direction.

That's probably cause his snacks were too larger earlier. Can you smear a bit of karo on his gums?

He went up to 102, 10 mins ago
He is now gone down to 89

for reference during the night, at what point do we consider ER?

Sorry, I never went to the ER. I just gave syrup or food to keep Neko safe. She got quite a bit lower, and that was on a human BG meter, so considerably lower than Tiger is now. But you have to decide what you are comfortable with. You can either keep on with the karo if needed (though you don't need to right now), or take him to the ER for a drip if you can't stay up and monitor. If you are lucky, he'll hang around where he is now and stay above 70. His nadir looks to be somewhere in the +5 to +6 range normally. What +time is it now? "10 minutes ago" means nothing to me.

Ideally I'd stop feeding him or giving him anything to see if he will stabilize on his own for a bit.

It’s +4.75 here now. 12:45 am…

ok well we will head to bed and I will monitor and give karo/ food if he’s dropping. Sorry for the 911.

Thank you so much for replying and helping me. I just panic a bit when the libre keeps showing that arrow indicating it’s falling fast.

Have a good night Wendy

I'd check him in 1/2 hour and see how he's doing. The lows are always scary the first few times. :bighug: Until you learn what carbs can slow him down. Might want to invest in something a bit higher carbs. Or experiment a bit with karo.

The 20% HC brought him up last time in minutes. Today has been strange, he has fallen all day even after his normal meals. Very strange…

just did +5 reading, 73…he’s going down again.

The power of a bounce breaking cycle, some cats can show a lot of downward momentum. The higher carb or karo may be need for those types of cycles.

493 at AMPS to 196 at PMPS was a sign of a bounce breaking. The all day slide carried on into night. Up please Tiger!

Hi Deb, I’m sorry last night was so tough for you and Tiger. So happy Wendy was with you to advise and reassure you. She’s amazing.
And you did great following along. It’s scary to have that kind of cycle. Especially late at night!
Having lots of carb options in the house is key.
Sending you a big hug and wishes for a much calmer day ahead! :bighug::bighug::bighug:
