1/17 Oberon AMPS 306, +4 263, +8 201

Can you remind me, what did Mark's say about Levemir availability after this year?

The person I talked to hadn't heard the news about it being discontinued in the US. She said she thought the pens were temporarily out of stock there because they were changing the style or something. You might want to call Mark's and try to talk to someone higher up who might know more about it. I've tried to search for info about it online and some news sites said it would still be available in Canada but others said production was being completely stopped. So I don't really know what's up.

Hi Lisa, Can I ask you about using Levemir? I’m considering a switch for Ivy from Lantus.
Why did you decide to use it? How do you like it? When does Oberon onset with it and nadir? Does it keep you up all night to monitor him with the later onset and nadirs? (I feed and shoot at 6 am/6 pm so trying to figure out if that could work for us, I have no helpers sadly. Just me who needs some sleep to be able to work etc).
Ivy seems to have issues with big time bouncing and duration issues, then she bounces up high.

Anything else you think I should know about its use to convince me one way or the other?
Thanks for your insight! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

We switched because Oberon was incredibly bouncy and we thought it might help. It did, though not quite the way we expected. He still bounces high, though it's getting a bit better. But the pace is much slower. Previously he could go from pink to lime in 4-6 hours with no warning, so we were checking him at least every 4 hours around the clock. There was nothing in between, either- he'd fly up and down between pink and green but never stayed anywhere in the middle. He still does those dives, but it takes a lot longer and we can see it coming, and he sometimes actually hangs out in blue/yellow. Nadir seems to be around +8, give or take.

You can sort of see it on his graph. Look at the "BG vs Date- all" tab. The red is Lantus, teal is Levemir, green is R, which we're not using any more. (Scale for insulin is on the right side, not the left- max dose was about 10 U.) Blue line is BG; black dots are AMPS and PMPS readings. The black line overlaid on BG is a 10-day running average to smooth things out a little bit and see trends. It's sort of hard to see now, but the BG lines while he was on Lantus are packed much closer together- faster ups and downs. Levemir has been much nicer. We still do frequent checks, but it's not as frantic as it used to be. If he's running high, we know that when he dives we'll have a bit of warning. So based on our experience I'd recommend looking into it! ECID, though, and what helped us might not help you. But I think other people have had similar experiences. Good luck!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I’m glad it’s been a good experience got you. Do you find you need to be up checking him middle of the night?

Ivy has those big drops too from red or pink down to green very fast. But she does spend time in blue and yellow.
Trying to figure out if Lev would be better for us or if the later onset and nadirs would be worse for me to manage than Lantus :banghead:

Thanks so much! :bighug:

I routinely check him at about midnight (+4) and then Tim checks at 6 am (+10) if he's running high or 4 am if we suspect he's going to be running low. If he ends up really low I stay up later and get Tim up earlier. But it's rarer than it used to be, and even if he's really low we can usually manage with hourly checks, not every 20-30 minutes like before. He just doesn't fluctuate as fast.

I see. For me the +4 is fine (10 pm) but +10 it would be 4 am :banghead:
I don’t think I could manage that.
As it is I get up at 5:30 am.
And I don’t have any help :(
