1/13 SINVER. AMPS 192 +1 183 +3 105 +5 75 +7 172 PMPS 327 +1'5 264 +3 265

I am at the stage, that I am very discouraged with sinver. Why doesn't he have any stability, he has gone back to having weird numbers, up and not going down as much. I don't know if he could have something that is telling me that something is wrong and that makes me very nervous. On Monday I have an appointment with the vet to check his teeth as a precaution, I would like to do a complete analysis. Can anyone advise me what I can ask the vet to include in the tests?

Hi Xelo:)
Sorry to hear you feel discouraged. I know it's tough. Sending a hug.
Sounds like a good idea to do a dental check.
I hope someone with some knowledge will give you some answers soon. Perhaps you can add the quest mark prefix to your post so it's easy for moderators to scan
You're doing great with Sinver. You're a great catmum :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I read that you understand supplements, and I consulted the page you added about B12 maybe my cat should be given it?

One test I don't see on your labs tab of the spreadsheet is the thyroid test. The T4 blood test is a good one to check with our kitties, and hyperthyroidism can cause some insulin resistance. It is usually included in what in Canada they call a geriatric or senior blood panel.

Hi Xelo, it’s good that you were seeing the vet if you’re concerned about what’s going on with Sinver. And certainly lab work will tell you if there’s anything going on you should need to worry about.
It seems like it may be good to ask about the B12 if you’re not giving that to Sinver, maybe the vet has some suggestions.
Sending you a big hug, you’re doing great looking out for all possibilities with Sinver and you take such good care of him. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I know how bad it feels when we see those high numbers, sending big hugs

This is cycle 6 since the dose increase so no e to see he has decided to work the dose this morning :D

It does seem like the FS set him back a little. Hang in there.

You asked me about B12 supplements and whether they may help reduce insulin resistance/absorption.

I've had a quick look and not found any papers relating B12 or other supplements to insulin resistance on cats. Though I did come across some literature that suggested it helps on humans.

Perhaps @Wendy&Neko or @Marje and Gracie may know otherwise??

I know that you are super careful with the food at home, but at the back of my mind, and because I live in a multi cat household, I know how easily George can get the better of me, and he's a 'snail slow' 24 year od cat, not a spritely and fast 7 year old kitty. I think the Kibble contraband may be a bigger problem than you imagine, I know the cost of low carb food is painful here, but maybe you could do an experiment for a few weeks ? Using some of the food that SINVER refuses to eat???
Just a suggestion xelo,:bighug::bighug::bighug:

I’m actually not seeing insulin resistance here. I’m seeing a bouncy cat that sometimes loses duration. For example, on 1/11 a.m. cycle, you fed him 5% at +7 when he was already on the way up. He quickly lost duration which causes the BG to go up faster at the end of the cycle and then he bounced.

I would try to avoid feeding him after +6 or his nadir unless he’s absolutely starving and then I’d try to find a 0% carb snack like freeze dried chicken or even boiled chicken.

I tried many supplements when Gracie was diabetic to help but none of them worked and I gave them ample time. B12 is great for many things like diabetic neuropathy and intestinal support as well as for non-regenerative anemia in CKD cats but I wouldn’t get my hopes up about insulin resistance which, gain, I just don’t see.his dose is not that high and he’s getting into green nadirs between bounces on this latest dose.

Hi Xelo:)

B12 is a very important vitamin for cats. But it has not relation to insluin. It's important for healthy immune system to gut health, to nervous system and more.
Cats get their B12 from fresh hunted food but since house cats don't have that and the commercial food is lacking in B12, it's an important addition to balance their health. It also increases appetite and alleviates the mood.

When you have your blood work done at the vet you'll know what's Sinver's B12 level is.

I don't know what's Sinver's weight but I'd suggest to start with 3mg and observe how it works. My approach with supplements is-try and observe. Some supplements take time to see effects. You also need to learn how your cat generally responds to supplements. With Fistuk I know I see changes and reactions very fast. More than the average. I'd give 4-6 weeks at least to see if you notice any changes.

B vitamins are water soluble so whatever the body can't absorb it will dispose with urine.

there are some conditions that prevent the body from absorbing the vitamins so that also needs to be taken into account. Digestive or pancreatic problems are one of them :bighug::bighug::bighug:
