Looking good at 3 U at the moment; I suspect he's saving up a surprise for tonight because that would be just like him to keep me up all night. Dental is scheduled for tomorrow morning (90 minutes away, 7:30 am appointment; I'll be getting up at dark o'clock). I confirmed with them just now that with a diabetic cat we don't have to stick to the "no food after 10 pm" rule if he's running low and I really need to feed him.

Just got the labs back from Monday's checkup and added them to his SS. Looks good! Even his glucose was normal, though that was just a quirk of the timing. And the vet added in a fructosamine test, which I don't think was really needed but it's cool to see that in the normal range as well. Thyroid and kidney function look good. So I'm going to hope that the weight loss is because of his teeth, because otherwise I don't have a good explanation.

Remind me, has he ever had the urine protein/creatinine ratio (UPCR) test done? Just asking cause he's showing a little protein in his urine over a couple tests. And it was recommended at one point.

Good luck with the dental. It's refreshing to have a dental done by a vet who knows the protocols for a diabetic kitty. :) My dental vet said up to 1/3 of Neko's breakfast before 6AM. It made both her and me much happier. I can see with that early start why you'd skip his shot!

I don't think we ever got that done. His regular vet is supposed to call me today to go over the results and I'll ask her about it. Maybe they can still run it on the sample we just sent in?

Also, the dentist just called... they had a cancellation and asked if I wanted to move the appt to 8 instead of 7:30. Not much, but it gives me a bit more of a buffer. And honestly, any later and I'd still have to leave early to allow for rush hour traffic.

Neko had proteinuria and had the UPCR once the protein in urine got high enough. It can be managed with medication, and you do want to do that as proteinuria can make CKD worse. Oberon's might not be quite high enough yet to consider the UPCR test.

I'll ask. We definitely want to pay attention, because so far as we can tell he only has one kidney. They couldn't find one of them on an ultrasound a few years ago (incidental finding; the ultrasound was when he had pancreatitis), and on Monday the vet could only feel one. So it's probably working overtime and we don't want to stress it.
