If you missed the introduction, it's HERE (and some great pictures too)
Just wanted to swing by and tell you how we're doing! Tomorrow he will have been mine for a whole week! He has made himself right at home and is already staking out his favorite places (one of which is on the couch with me or curled behind my knees in bed)
He has discovered the Christmas Tree! He acts like he's never seen one but he sure is trying to have fun with it. Several ornaments have been taken down and about 6 feet of garland that had been around the bottom part of the tree somehow got taken down and dragged out into the middle of the floor. I haven't had a big tree for years since my kids were long gone and it was just me, but I really wanted one this year and it was only $39 so it was my Christmas present to myself. I bought a "tree collar" instead of a tree skirt and it seems to have become one of his favorite places. (the "collars" are supposed to keep the pets OUT of the base of the tree. Guess nobody told Garfield.)
While digging through boxes, I found some resin figures in the shapes of cats that were representing the manger scene at Christmas. There are 3 wise-cats, Mary-cat, Joseph-cat, Baby Jesus-cat and an Angel-cat. I put them on top of my piano but really wished I had some kind of "manger scene" to put them in and when I was going down the Christmas aisle at Walmart, I saw a small manger for about $4. Wasn't sure it would work, but for $4 I was willing to try. It was perfect!
Since he's been here, he's eating nothing but low carb canned (except the first night when I wanted him to have as much "familiar" stuff as possible) and he's doing great! His highest BG has been 104 and lowest was 90.
I'm still going to keep testing for the full 14 days to make it official, but I'm pretty sure I adopted a non-diabetic, diabetic cat!
I do have to admit, when adopting a senior cat, I was expecting a cat that acted "senior". Again, somebody seems to have forgotten to tell Garfield. He gracefully jumps up on the counters, chases his catnip mice and just generally acts like a much younger cat. Of course I'm also not used to having a younger, senior cat since my last 3 were all 18 or older when they passed so maybe I've just forgotten.
Will pop in now and then and tell you how it's going! (especially on day 14 when he'll officially be OTJ!)
