Ok I messed up with Tigers middle of the night feedings. His feeder has been empty the last 2 nights and I never realized it needed filled. The last 2 mornings he has bugging me to get up and then not eating well when I do feed him. It dawned on me to check the feeder. That explains why he had no red numbers last night late or this morning, and the not eating well as his tummy is probably upset. It does not explain the high numbers yesterday, however.??

I feel so bad that now I’ve got his tummy upset. He’s being very quiet this morning and so far not eaten a whole lot but hopefully we can get him feeling better, along with the cerenia. My biggest fear was that I would mess up going on little sleep and I did…

All of us make mistakes when we are so tired. I once put Gracie’s glucometer in the microwave instead of her rice bag to warm her ears. Yeah…that didn’t turn out well.

Forgive yourself and move on. I was hoping you’d be up less last night.

I did get a bit more sleep but not enough I guess. I should have caught this and refilled it Sunday night. It holds 5 nights worth but has no indicator of when you’re on the last night. I had put a small dot of nail polish on the day to fill but it’s small and I never noticed it. Poor Tiger, he tried to tell me both nights!

He was a bit slow eating this morning, a bit of icky tummy I think, but has since went back and cleaned his plate. Hopefully feeling better.

His numbers are much better today.

Hi Deb, be kind to yourself this is very hard on little to no sleep. We can all relate. You’ve got this and Tiger is lucky to have you caring for him :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Oh Staci, thank you so much. It helps to have that positive feedback. You don’t know how much. Sometimes I feel like a complete dummy with this. I find myself questioning myself on everything, afraid to do the wrong thing or miss something.

Ok good Ty. I already gave him 1 tsp of mc.
We have gone one extreme to the other yesterday and today!
Great job of getting him to flatten out.

Remember that we are more careful about feeding after +6 (unless you’ve got dropping BGs) because it decreases the duration and the BG will shoot up really fast. So far, your choice at +6.5 was good; he came up and flattened out which probably helped you be comfortable. As you start feeling more at ease with this, you might find that for a similar pattern, he just needs a tsp of LC food.

Hi Marje, thank you.

Thank you for helping me thru all this.

I am still not comfortable with all this
6.5 is the time we have used for his tummy troubles so I kept the same.

I have some questions/ concerns,
1. He has slept by my side almost all day. Only got up for his snack.
2. Hasn’t drank water since this morning and only 1 trip to litter box early today.
3. Not really out of it but low energy.
Are these normal at this point? I hate seeing him with no sparkle in his eyes and just laying around asleep. But is it something to worry about?

I am already worried about tonight’s shot.
1. What preshot reading do I need to see?
2.will he go lower tonight? He has gone low twice before. Once I slept thru (35) and the other he was falling fast and I gave food. Both times he had a lower preshot number.

I know I am being a pest but I am so nervous and don’t want to make a mistake and let my baby down.

do understand, Deb. I know how it feels. I have received so much kindness here and I hope you will as well. It really helps to communicate with others going through similar situations. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

High numbers make them not feel well but I don’t know if any of those things indicate something more serious. Certainly I would feel better if his ketones were checked. I know he is easily stressed but you know him best and if you feel this is out of the norm for him, you should call your vet.

Worried about what? That it will be too low? For SLGS (and I suggest you review this and learn it :) although we are here to help as you do so), I would say that if you get a 150 or below at any preshot, don’t feed him. Post and ask for help on whether you should shoot or stall. If you feed him, it will artificially raise his BG and when the food wears off in 2 hours, if you shot on time with the full dose, you might find his BG dropping.

He’s not going low enough to cause any concern right now. Will he go lower tonight? I honestly don’t know. He’s headed up now so he’s had somewhat of a “normal” cycle today in that he had an easily discernible nadir. He’s looking alot better and so, if he doesn’t bounce from the lower blue numbers that he’s not used to, he might do the same thing tonight but we won’t know whether he will come down some until we see his +2. Do you see on his SS how his BG has come down when the +2 was similar to or less than the PS?

I know the blue numbers are scary. I remember the first time I saw a 150. But, he’s not gone low again since 12/15. We don’t consider 60 to be low. Yes, under SLGS, it earns a reduction but it’s not a low number.

You aren’t being a pest!!! You are learning. Just post here if you have questions. Please use the “?” prefix (click on “thread tools” in your first post of the condo and to the left of the subject are the prefixes); be sure and click on “save changes”. Once someone answers your question, please use the same process to remove the “?”. You can also edit the title in the same way and put something like “Dropping Numbers, Help Please”. Both of those will help you get attention.

Beautiful to see Tiger hitting yellows and blues in the am cycle today. That is new for him and I'm sure his body and organs appreciated the lower numbers, even if for a few hours.

Ty! It’s new for both of us! Kind of scary watching them drop. With the libre you see the numbers and graph for the last 8 hours, so I can see every move. Looks like a roller coaster ride at times. But, alas, it didn’t last long, back up it went! How does it go up so fast and without food!

I wonder if he sleeps because his body is relaxing at the lower numbers.
Glad you’re back.

I'm not sure where you are, but as it gets colder, both my cats sleep more. As my cats age, they sleep more too.

Can't wait for your glucose ketone meter to arrive. I just had to use mine on NY day because I rarely can catch my cat in the LB. I'm thankful I have the meter too. It is very important to test for ketones.

If I had to bet on it, I'd say his preshots are still so high because he isn't at the right dose yet. The dose he is currently on doesn't last the duration of the 12 hours. You just keep increasing according to the dosing method Tiger is on. Im hopeful you will get there eventually.

If you look at Base's SS, you'll see it took almost 3 months before his pm preshot numbers were in normal range. Once it hits those ranges, we want them to stay there too. Base really turned the corner when I stopped feeding him after +3. I understand Tiger needs to eat every 6, I'm just explaining what made a noticeable difference to me. Getting him off of everything but low carb has helped too.

You don't have anything to worry about when his numbers are this high, even if you see the libre starting to descend. Over time you will start to pick up on his patterns and you'll know his next move. His numbers are currently way too high for you to be worried. Even if he dropped 300 points, he'd still be 158, which is out of normal range. Giving you perspective here.

Nice blue am cycle, Deb. Tiger just bounced in on from the new lower bgs his body experienced. It’s very normal.
You’re doing great!! Keep posting and asking questions! You’re a great Mom to your beautiful Tiger :bighug::bighug::bighug:
