Of course Angel decided it was time to dive tonight... I'm so tired:blackeye: but will stay up with her until she's safe again. She seems perky at the moment. Gave her a bunch of HC food (wet and dry) after the PM+3 test to slow her down, but that didn't stop her from dropping further unfortunately. Was really hoping to avoid a reduction. Fed the same after the PM+4 test, will test again soon to see what's going on.

Caught ya on main ;). When Maverick dropped into greens the first time I grabbed HC too. Hopefully with time and some experience, you may find that trying out a little LC first may be sufficient. Might have also caught the drop a little earlier, say +2, but again, you’re just starting to get a feel for onsets and nadirs now that you are seeing movement from the flat yellows.

Yeah, I just figured that because she's mainly eating HC dry, she wouldn't be sensitive enough to LC to use that to prevent a drop. Not that HC achieved it either lol. +2 would've been a good idea, I just genuinely wasn't expecting this at all! This is the first real big drop she's had on Lantus. It's a shame because I liked the 2U blues. Hopefully they'll stick around even after the reduction.

There is a time and place for HC, and that’s when kitties go low and you need to take action to bring them back up again to a safe number. Feeding HC to keep from earning a reduction isn’t really a technique to be used, IMHO.

Question... tomorrow I'll find out just how the depot will affect the next cycles after a reduction. Should I be extra cautious during the next cycle since she'll still have some of that 2U depot in her?

Don’t be afraid to have a reduction :), the worst thing is we need to go back up again, which really is not that bad.

Good to know! Still learning Lantus rules, and I know I'm an outlier for still feeding HC dry. I'd like to eventually get her to a proper LC wet diet again, but these bowel problems take priority now unfortunately.

True!

She may bounce a little from seeing the green. I’d see where this cycle goes, and where her preshot is tomorrow.

Oh right, a bounce is definitely possible. She'll be experiencing some stress too tomorrow since it's the last day of the year and us Dutchies go absolutely crazy on (what we call) Old Year's Day.

I'm gonna test her again now.

Just for my benefit, what’s your go to HC food and %? You keep good notes in the remarks, I’d add the % carb, what amount and at what point in the cycle for future reference. It’ll be good to refer to when Angel decides to pull shenanigans again.

Keeping bowels happy trumps LC wet diet for the moment and we can work with that ;).

Old Year’s Day sounds like fun I may have to put that on my bucket list!

Got a 110 now at PM+5. Do I need another test to see if she'll go up or down again? If so, how long should I wait before testing again?

I agree with Christie. However, the depot very well could effect tge next 4 or more cycles.

Will keep that in mind!

I'll try to write this up tomorrow :cat: It's hard to note that down because we don't really have a set feeding schedule, and her foods differ depending on how she's feeling and what she's in the mood for. I have a big clowder of cats who all like different foods, and Angel loves to sneak bites from all of them:p not allowed since I put her on the strict gastro diet, but of course all rules are thrown out the window when she's sick and doesn't want to eat her usuals...

It's definitely fun! Just a lot of fireworks and explosions. I've heard Americans refer to it as 4th of July on steriods lmao. The government is becoming increasingly in favor of a ban on most fireworks though, so you might have to come sooner rather than later!

For reference... this is a video that I love to show to foreigners:

Most of the stuff shown isn't legal fireworks, but very common regardless. There's little to no enforcement of what is or isn't allowed. Many people drive to Germany, Belgium or even further to get the bigger/stronger/harder fireworks that aren't sold here.

Gotcha about the feeding. It was more to get a sense of how the cycle went with what you fed. Usually I would say if you were steering low numbers (under 50) that depending on how high carb that numbers can still bobble around a little, so even when a cat goes above 50 it’s still important to keep testing. See this post, how to handle low numbers but good news is she only hit 76 then came back up.

Thanks! Luckily she seems to be holding steady, got a 119 at PM+5.5 so I'm off to bed now to catch a few hours of sleep.

Oh, I totally forgot to mention! Since we're already a couple hours into december 31st in my timezone, it is officially Angel's birthday today! 14 years, here's to many more.

Happy Birthday, Angel!
