:banghead: :blackeye: I left out a new glargine pen I had just started a few days ago on the counter. I think it would've been fine to use maybe kept at room temperature. I threw it out and started a fresh one today. Grrrr... what a waste.

Looks like it was an active cycle last night. Starting lower this morning. I'll work from home today so I can monitor her.

Yesterday's Post

Today's Summary:
6:42am - AMPS 138
6:45am - Shot 1.0U
6:48am - Fed 1/2 can of TruLuxe Steak Frites (5.5%) + 1/2 can of Weruva Wx Low Phos (0.0%) + 0.25ml Nordic Naturals Omega3 + 1/2 packet of FortiFlora probiotics.

Nice AMPS. Go Kona!

Hopefully there won't be a next time, but if there is, the open pen will be good for 28 days (after opening) without refrigeration.

Thanks so much, Sybil. I remember reading that when I first started, but something about keep using it out of the fridge or even putting back in just didn't sit right with me. I'm sure it would have been totally fine.

Which is horrible, right? LOL, here I am totally privileged, with 3 extra pens ready to go when I JUST read in the news the other day about people struggling to afford insulin and some shortages.

If my gut tells me no, I go with my gut.

It isn't horrible because you acknowledge your privilege. Also, I'm not sure if there would be a place to donate it or how they even handle something like that. It is horrible that our society struggles to have their healthcare needs met.

Wait.. got my times all screwed up. +5 was a little higher.

It is horrible that our society struggles to have their healthcare needs met.

100% I think about it ALL THE TIME.... Kona eats better than probably millions of humans around the world, in terms of the costs of her food.

Same with healthcare, my two cats have a healthcare/insurance plan that is about $250 per month. Then you have the actual lab work that is not factored into that figure... There are millions of humans around this world that don't even have any healthcare, let alone what they could live off of with that amount of money for several months.

Totally blows my mind, needless to say, Kona is one lucky cat!!! We are both very, very grateful!

It is mindblowing. Being aware is key. While we can't change the state of the world, we can certainly do our part. No matter how small, even if is educating oneself.

I have often thought about the same exact things. I can't deny my cats their needs because of what the current social economic scene is though. Medical and food needs. My cats aren't at the spa each Tuesday. :cat:

Kona is pretty much there… 1 paw already into the spa. I call her, Miss Thang!

Innnteresting... pretty flat all day. o_O

Bummer... so I gave her shot for the night then flew out the door as I had to leave immediately to some friends' house. I set up the automatic feeder with Steak Frites at 5.5% for the +1 and +2 snack just in case she did any crazy drops as she had the 152 PMPS. I should of did lower carb food for snacks, oh well.

Home now at the +3 and she is 287 =( Hopefully the insulin slowly brings her down through the rest of the cycle tonight and we see a decent number first thing in the morning for the AMPS.

Sometimes we see a flat AM cycle like today and that will mean a bounce, but sometimes it's been a super active cycle to come. Hard to tell and predict, but safe than sorry I guess...

Yes, she is sensitive to carbs. Her normal meals are always less than 1%.

The steak frites at 5.5% always prevents any crazy drops. For hypo scares, 9% is plenty, rarely does she need 14%.

I’ve only ever had to do Karo once, that was right after she went cold turkey on kibble.

Awww. She's beautiful. She looks so tiny. I love her little face. Is she ornery?

Yes, very tiny, Kona is 9lbs. Both cats are tiny, her sister Cleo is like 7 or 8lbs. She was the runt and Kona was the biggest of the litter. Isn’t that crazy, Basic would look huge next to them, they’d look like his kittens. :cat:

Kona is not ornery at all, super gentle, very vocal. She got an annoying voice though, LOL… She’s a sweetheart, but she is a total princess. Everything has to be her way. Litter box has to be pristine and she rarely covers, she darts out the box like she’s too pretty to be anywhere around litter boxes. Her sister has to cover for her when she comes along.

She loves to be held like a baby, always wants to be held upside down. Ha ha ha
