Happy holidays guys,
Me and Fred’s back after a bit of a break on here
After that fur shot last week and another dog food incident under my parent’s care we’re trying to get back on track. Now that Christmas is over he’s got my full attention again :p

he’s been all over the place the last few days from reds to greens. Still on 4.25. We’re getting down in the lows here an hour before shot time, hoping to keep him steady Freddy :cat:

Update: so Fred’s at 50 as of 11.5. If he goes any lower within 30 minutes what’s the protocol for his shot? Do I stall?(I assume not because he’s already so low) Or still feed and shoot? I’ll be here to supervise. Hope he doesn’t keep dropping

update #2 Fred hit 49 at 3.5 so we’re looking at a reduction tomorrow!! Gave him a little HC to boost him up before bedtime :p

I hear you…what is with the interest in dog food?! My civvie will grab a couple kibble now and again and crunch it as fast as he can before the dog realizes he’s got them. Good luck with the cycle tonight, I wonder if Fred is trying for a reducie?

I have no clue but he LOVES it. Fred used to be a strictly hard food kitty so I know he misses it…any chance to get his little paws on some he’ll take it :D & I’m wondering if he’ll need one too pretty soon. He’s been riding that line today and yesterday, we’ll see!! :bighug:

If he happens to go under 50 at preshot, general guidelines, although every cat is different, you have a couple options. You can stall, not feed and retest in 15-20 minutes, and see if the BG rises on its own, If he’s still under 50 after that you can feed some LC and retest again on 15-20 minutes. You don’t want to artificially inflate the BG numbers, but need to see the rise up to shoot safely.

Sounds good. I think he just did a reduction fakeout… got to 50 and now he’s on the rise 15 minutes later (58) I’ll double check again in 15 at shot time. He had his mini meal at +5 today
Cheeky monkey, he knows he’s got a few people watching his fancy moves. Oh so close to a reduction, I do still wonder if he’s going to keep you busy tonight. Sounds good, let’s see where he’s at for preshot.

Thanks a bunch :bighug:

shot him at 65 so we’re good to go but I’ll still keep a close eye. & I’ll definitely save that info in my notes. With the stalling thing, at what number does it become unsafe for him and I should feed asap? What I’ve been doing Previously is feeding him MC right when he goes anywhere under 50 (even 49) because that’s when I start to get nervous. Don’t know if I’m being dramatic about it but just wondering if it’s relatively safe for him to be in the 40’s?

It really depends on when you get the lower numbers. When they are closer to preshot, one would expect the previous dose is waning, and numbers should naturally rise on their own. You don’t want to feed MC in order to get a preshot number that is “safe” to shoot because it can often be the case that you artificially inflate the preshot, then when the next dose kicks in, you can have a bit of a wild ride keeping up with the BG values.

If the lower numbers happen earlier in the cycle, feeding MC can help to prop up numbers since you still have a lot of the insulin effects still in play.

here is what I was referring to with handling low preshots

I’d check at +1 since it does seem he might still be up for something. Or he could bounce :p

Awesome, I tend to think the worst possible thing is going to happen but I’m definitely getting more comfortable the more I learn how he reacts. I’m getting there slowly :joyful:

thanks again! He’s at 88 @ +1 :cat:
