Great job on the food transition. I'm going to dust off my crystal ball and predict that you're going to see a bounce!

Is there any chance you can get a later test during the PM cycle? Looking at his PM +3 last night vs his AMPS, it looks like his numbers dropped. I'm just wondering how low his numbers dropped. (Hence my predicting that he's going to bounce.)

Omg, look at the numbers now that’s he’s on low carb food only!!! Well done you :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I’m sure now you can see how insane that 12 unit dose was huh?!!!

I’d try to get a test right before you go to bed. Would that be a +4?

@Bron and Sheba (GA) i know he didn’t go under 90 but wondering if she should reduce the dose so she doesn’t have to skip the shots

Yes 12 units was ridiculous!!! It was nice going into vet and only paying $35 (which I still thought was high for 100 syringes). I have been paying over $150 a week for insulin/food, and higher on weeks that included a glucose curve!!

I started a new thread. This was a reply from previous post:
This will give us a chance to see how the full transition to low carb wet food has affected his BG. That should help us decide on a dose tonight as well.

yes I will do every 2 hours until +4 today.

Does everyone’s cat not eat the wet food once it is in the corners/sides? If I don’t move it to the center he won’t eat it.

I would get a test shortly before you go to sleep. You want to see a trend. If numbers were dropping it might mean getting an extra test or leaving food out.
I always leave food out when I go to bed, should I not? I have the automatic feeder set up so he has food up until 2 hours before AMPS and PMPS. I manually (lol) feed him at 6 after he gets his test.

He went from 159 to 338 ..... is that considered a bounce?

Should I have him on a regular schedule eating only after testing? is 2 cans enough? he weighs around 19 pounds but I don't think he will eat 5 cans a day if I go with the ratio on FF website.

I think it's fine to leave food out. I was simply suggesting that if you see numbers are dropping to make sure there's food available. Some cats like to graze. If that's what Thomas is used to, let him graze at his convenience. Other cats will inhale whatever food is available. It all depends on your cat.

I would consider that a bounce. I would especially consider it a bounce if the numbers keep heading upward since it's close to the end of the cycle.

I went ahead and gave him 1.5. I can't be off on his schedule so I can test a couple for times. I am staying up later than usual already. Let me know if I should change it tomorrow morning. I will post a couple for in another hour and then get another one in before I go to sleep.

He bounced!!

To respond to your question about changing the dose, I'm assuming you were thinking about the possibility of increasing due to the bounce. It may help to think about how low this dose is taking Thomas' numbers. He dropped to a 93 on 1.5u. You wouldn't want to increase given how he's responding to this dose plus, he's now on a fully low carb diet.

Given the bounce, you don't know when the bounce will break. It could break tomorrow or in a couple of cycles. The one thing you don't want to do is to increase a dose when a bounce is breaking. There is momentum behind the numbers coming down due to the bounce clearing. If you couple that with a dose increase, there is a lot of momentum to drive numbers lower. As you continue to collect data, you'll have a better idea of how quickly Thomas clears a bounce.

It is just about +2 hours and now its 436. Is that bad? Im not understanding the bouncing or exactly what the numbers mean.

We must have been typing at the same time! So is the bouncing good? I guess I was assuming that since switching to wet food and his numbers went down that they would stay down and that would be a good thing.

I asked about the dose because @Suzanne & Darcy and @Bron and Sheba (GA) thought I may need to lower the dose. You are giving me too way too much credit thinking I know to increase or decrease dose. It is like talking a different language to me at the moment!!!

Thomas is bouncing from the 93 this morning. Very common in newly diagnosed cats.
I would stay with the 1.5 dose unless he drops under 90 OR @Suzanne & Darcy tells you otherwise.
Great getting all those tests in today. You can see how much information it gives us!

Can yo put ‘skip’ into the U columns of the SS where you didn’t give any insulin please so everyone is aware no insulin was giving? Thx.

How’s it going this morning. I’ve been searching for your thread! I didn’t see any tags. Sorry.

Good Day! I tagged you at the beginning of the thread. Should I tag differently?

Today will be the first day to be on a schedule with his automatic feeder and the first week completely on wet food. Hopefully everything will start coming together! He still peed on the tile in the kitchen this morning but even that seems to be getting better, its not as much there has been a couple days not at all.

It sounds like progress!

I'm so happy for you that the numbers are looking so much better. Excellent job!
Thank you and everyone here!! A year ago, just before he was diagnosed with diabetes, I was trying to switch him to wet food and trying every kind because he wouldn't change from his dry food. No people food, nothing. He was so stressed out and lost 10 pounds (he was 24 pounds) then all the sudden got UTI and diagnosed with diabetes. I have spent so much money at the vet in the past year it is absolutely ridiculous.

I just tested again at +3 hours to make sure he wasn't dropping even lower and it is 328. He ate almost 2 cans in the past 3 hours if that has anything to do with the number.

I’m concerned that he dropped too low today. His Pmps was low (and Vetsulin doesn’t last that long.). And, it now appears he is bouncing. Was there no way to get any tests today? For tomorrow, I would definitely recommend a reduction. But tell me what your schedule will be tomorrow? Will he be on his own again all day tomorrow? This will make a difference in what I recommend.

I had a client with 4 dogs reschedule tomorrows appointment. I took clients off my waiting list but I still have 2 hours open between 11-2. I can block off time to come home and test. What do you think?

Okay. I can write more now. He is still bouncing. You could see the bounce starting last night with the pink, and now the red this morning. The bounce is because, I believe, that he dropped too low yesterday during the daytime cycle. So he needs the reduction to make sure he will be safe. You will just have to wait out the bounce. Okay? And you can come home today when you can and test him (he may still be quite high, but it still will be helpful information and reassuring for all of us.)

I just tested and it is 303. Should I do another at 12 or 1? or both?? I can come home around 4 as well before I do the PMPS if that would help.

Well he’s still pretty high but coming down. I would not do two tests at this point. I would wait until 1 o’clock if you are home — mostly to see if he is still coming down from the bounce.
