Hello my baby doesn't want to eat he is drinking, but he is laying around alot I'm taking him to the vet on Monday. Other then that I don't know what to do

Are you home testing? Do you have a Walmart new you where you can go get the supplies to test his bg?

we need a bit more info please. What insulin is he on and what dose? What food? How long has he not been eating? Is he acting nauseated like smelling the food and/or licking it and not eating? Do you have any anti nausea meds you can give him like Cerenia or ondansetron? Have you tried different foods or even baby food?

it’s important for a diabetic cat to eat so you can give insulin. No food and no insulin puts them at risk of ketones. I’d also suggest you go to a pharmacy and get a ketones test kit to monitor for it daily. Ketones are life threatening and mean a trip to the er.

Friday night as in last night right? Have you tried syringe feeding him? I’d try some baby food and even tuna also to see if he’ll eat. Really anything even high carb foods like kibble because it’s important he eats.

It’s hard to to interpret the data this way because I don’t know when your shot times are how far from the shot times those tests were taken. With Vetsulin, you need to test, feed, and wait at least 30 minutes before giving the shot because it hits hard and fast and they really need food onboard. Do you think you could set up a spreadsheet using our template?

it sounds like he may be nauseated. Anyone you know who has pets and may have some Cerenia? I feel it’s really important with diabetic cats to always have anti nausea meds at hand in case they don’t want to eat. I’d definitely ask the vet on Monday to prescribe either Cerenia or ondansetron. They work differently so you can give him both.

also, Vetsulin is not the best insulin for cats. You may want to share the guidelines from the American Animal Hospital Assn for the treatment of diabetes in both dogs and cats with your vet. the AAHA no longer recommends Caninsulin/Vetsulin for treating feline diabetes.

You need to be testing the urine for ketones. It’s a simple test. You need to buy a bottle of Ketostix from Walmart or a pharmacy and follow the direction on the bottle. HERE is a link with hints how to collect the urine sample.

Yes lastnight is when he started not wanting to eat. I finally got to were I can test s blood in his paws. I'm not good at these things i sorry.

Hello I took him to the vet today and the vet gave me Elora and metacam for him to take. And a can of urgent care a/d to try and get him to eat. He said if he doesn't eat to bring him back in the morning to run test.

Elura is an appetite stimulant that is used for cats with kidney disease.

Metacam (meloxicam) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication that carries a black box warning in the US due to its causing acute kidney failure in cats. Did your vet give you this information? In a low dose, it may be helpful for pain. From the information you provided, it doesn't sound like pain is the issue.

With the issue being not eating, I feel like your vet should have given him a shot of Cerenia at least and definetely tested for ketones. You’re in he US right? Nauseated cats won’t eat even with apetite stimulant. You need to push for the meds we advised you he needs and pls ask lots of questions as to why he/she is prescribing what it’s being prescribed so you can understand the logic behind it.
