Question on wet food FF

I am working on a transition to LC wet (my cats both seem to really like the FF classic which I know is a good one) but am I reading correctly that with fancy feast it’s 1 can per 3.5 pounds of body weight? I have two cats- Mae the diabetic weighs around 12 pounds and my no diabetic cat is part Maine Coon and about 20 pounds. If I’m doing the math right, that’s like 7 cans per day? The cans are approximately .89 which is $7 per day so about $210 per month??? I thought the Purina DM dry food at $70 per bag was expensive but this is 3 times the price lol. I hope I’m just tired and doing the math wrong but in my head I was expecting this to end up being a lot closer cost wise to what I’m currently spending.
 
I've not ever seen that info on how many cans per day based on weight. I've seen formulas based on calories. There's information on the feline nutrition site that suggests that your cat will need is:
Required calories per day = [13.6 X optimal lean body weight in pounds] + 70

So, if Mae's current weight is a good weight for her, she would need roughly 230 calories per day. You Maine Coon would need about 100 calories more. FF Chicken is about 90 calories. Mae would need about 2.5 cans/day vs. your other cat would need about 4 cans.

One thought is to look at prices on Chewy's or Amazon. Other than when the big box pet stores have sales, you will find better prices online.

Thanks for giving that information! I guess since I’ve only ever fed dry food the thought of putting out 6+ cans of wet food in a day is wild to me lol. I’ll definitely check Chewy and Amazon and see if I spot any sales. I know at diagnosis Mae was closer to 13 pounds and looked chunky but she’s lost a little weight so I’m estimating she’s 12 now. I’ll have to weigh her to be sure but I think she looks good and healthy.

The 1 can per 3.5 pounds is what is written on the actual can of FF so that’s where I got that info from :)

The formula on the back of the can is for “average size adult cats,” which is about 8-10 lbs. Even then, you’ll have differences based on activity levels. My hyper 9 lb cat needs 3 cans a day to keep her weight steady, but my sedentary 11 lb cat eats about 2 cans.

That makes sense too, thank you! Both my cats are seniors and pretty sedentary so they’d probably be on the lower end. I love this forum!

I don't know if you're interested in this sort of thing, but I use a coupon app called Ibotta that sometimes offers rebates on certain pet foods. I see Fancy Feast pop on there, in fact it's on there now. I've also saved money on Chewy and at Petco.

I call it a coupon app but it's actually a redemption app. For example, I went to Petco recently, bought my food like normal, and then scanned my receipt into the app. The next day I got something like $1 back in the app. They had a promotion for Chewy recently, and I got more like $8 back. But if you shop online you have to connect to the site through their app. For receipts you just scan them into the app after your purchase.

Anyway, I've only been using it a month and have redeemed two $20 Amazon gift cards. But you can get gift cards for places like Petco or Walmart too. You can also get actual cash back. I figure every little bit helps. :)
