Haven't updated the group on Basic in awhile.
Everytime I reduce his high carb kibble, he refuses to eat that day amd it takes a minimumof 24 hours for him.to start eating 'normal' again. I've stopped attempting it. He gets ¼ C in the am. I have some Dr. Elsey's low carb kibble, but his bowels are still loose from the antibiotics 2 months ago. He refuses to eat food w/probiotics added and pilling him is a nightmare. I don't want to start a new food while he is having these issues nor do I want to risk him refuses to eat because I've yet again, changed food.
I have a libre from his vet to install. I'm a little worried to do it, but I also want to make a band that goes around him to keep it secure before installing it. I do not want vetbond used on his skin again.
Mirataz
I want to include this information because I searched the forum and couldn't find info on this. My cat had a severe reaction to the miratz. I caught in time, but had I kept applying this to my cat's ear, it probably would've had to be removed. It was like a chemical burn that took days to clean and clear up. If your cat ever acts like the ear you are applying this medication to is hurting, believe them. Check the cat's ear thoroughly using a flashlight or headlamp to help you see better. If it is red, swollen, and painful, stop using this medication immediately. Make sure to use warm water with soap, i used Dawn to clean all of this medication off. This may take a few days if your cat's ear hurts. Make sure to clean the entire ear, even the edges. I also applied aloe from my plant on his ear after each cleaning. The vet said it only happens to 10% of patients, but I was unaware it could happen at all. It was just another thing my cat has had to go through since this mess all began. The vet said for me to see how he is doing without app stim. It has been a week. His appt isn't what I would like, but I know if I laid his old food down, he would gobble it up. I'm keeping an eye on his weight. If he loses weight, my only option is to get another appt stim and/or give him some of his old food. He will only eating 1 flavor of FF currently. His mood seems to be improving each day he is off that med too. Don't feel it agreed with my cat's mental state at all.
And this brings me to my last concern...
He is no longer responding to insulin like he once was. His numbers aren't really coming down from the 300s. I just increased .25 on day 5 without doing a curve. I did this because his numbers aren't fluctuating at all. I'm getting very concerned that he is becoming insulin resistant. If anyone could look at his SS and give me your opinion, that would be greatly appreciated.
I will be scheduling a vet appt for another full blood panel with in the next couple of weeks.
Basic seems fine and he seems to be feeling well. He is playing with me, rolling on his back for belly rubs. His coat isn't great either. I expressed concern with the vet abt it and she said it isn't a major concern at the moment. I would typically rub coconut oil on his coat this time of the year and would get rid of the dandruff, but giving his current situation, I don't think that is a great idea.
Thanks in advance for you help.
