It's common for newly diagnosed cats to be quite bouncy. As they get used to lower numbers, they will bounce more slowly (that is, spend longer in lower numbers), clear bounces faster and not bounce as high.

What you can do is feed a little food every hour on bounce clearing cycles to reduce the diving.

Give it 6 cycles from that 49 for him to clear the bounce. Are you verifying lower numbers (especially those below 50) with a regular meter?

Thank you. I’ll try to get hourly feeds in as best I can. At the moment he’s on 1.5 to 2 hourly feeds but on very low carb, so I might try a slightly higher carb (8.5%). Do you think that would help?

I do verify the lower numbers when I can but I’m usually at work when they happen.

Feeds every 1.5 to 2 hours is fine for cycles where he is bouncing like yesterday AM or this AM. In cycles like last night, hourly feeds in the first 3-4 hours of the cycle would be good. If you find that hourly feeds with his usual food is not enough to flatten the curve, you can try slightly higher carbs.

Thanks I really appreciate your advice. :bighug:
