Hi everyone,
Since I’m having difficulties falling back asleep after Zyler’s test I figured I’d share my experience with litter robot and how it was key to Zyler’s diagnosis.
Zyler had the LR3 since 2018 and this year for his birthday I upgraded to LR4-mainly cause I liked the idea that it was supposed to notify me of low litter which admittedly since it was so efficient at saving litter (only 10lbs litter 1x a month) I often forgot to add. The LR4 also had a redesign that I was hoping would get rid of some bonnet errors that would pop on the LR3 as well as a bonus weight tracking.
Fast forward 6 months with LR4 in October, I was working extremely long hours and got a full message on his robot and also an error (pee clumps had hit the sensor). This gave me the perfect reason to deep clean the whole robot, replacing all the litter, etc. Fast forward to the following Saturday and it errored again, waste was full and needed litter-hm weird, but I was working so much I didn’t think anything of it, cleaned it again, refilled it, etc. The 3rd weekend, same thing (now using 10lb litter a week). This is when I went back into the log, what’s going on with this thing, why is it cycling so much and using so much litter. I was able to compare the amount of times it cycled a day since I purchased it as well as Zyler’s weight. Not only did I see the cycle times double over the previous 3 weeks but also saw that his weight was trending down. As I’m digging into all this, I looked over at Zyler who is drinking from his fountain for entirely too long-ding ding ding, I knew immediately.
While the robot is a hefty cost, for years it’s saved so much money in litter making it pay for itself. Not to mention he gets to use a “freshly flushed toilet” every time and it keeps the dog from looking for any “buried treasure”. It has always helped me just with my working schedule to have one less daily task, but I think it was really key to be able to quickly notice his symptoms. I remember when I first put it all together I was very hard on myself that it took till the 3rd week, however now I am grateful that it was only 3. I know I likely wouldn’t have been monitoring litter consumption and definitely wouldn’t have known Zyler’s weight since it was only about 1lb drop.
Thanks to this community for the support over the last month, we appreciate being able to learn, ask questions, and share our experiences.
Feel free to ask any questions you might have about the litter robot and I’d be happy to share more about the logs to see if it’s something that you think might help you monitor your kitty better. Hope everyone has a wonderful day!
