He was acting fine as of 8:30pm last night even if his numbers were a bit high. This morning he was 326@ his normal amps shot time, but he refuses to eat anything. NOTHING. Treats, kibble, illicit food, regular food anything. I gave him a dose of cerenia, but it doesn't seem to have done anything for him. We are coming up to +13 with no insulin. The vet clinic doesn't open until 8:30am...that's another hour.
QUESTION: Should I give a token dose of 3 or so units (his current dose is 7 units) or skip until maybe he eats, or I get in touch with the vet???

ETA: he's 314 @+13 and blood ketones of 0.4, which is 'normal' for him based on his current BG numbers. Still have not given insulin and now he's taken himself under the coffee table away from everyone :(

My personal thoughts would be to give half the dose, and take him in this morning if he absolutely won't eat anything.

I don't know if he pooped, he lives with other cats, I haven't seen him use the litterbox since we woke up. Thanks for your advice

He might just continue to bounce from the greens he saw a couple of days back, so even a full dose might just be fine. It's been over an hour since his shot is due? If you shoot now can you adjust future shooting schedule accordingly? With ketones in the picture, a skip is not advisable. You want to give at least a token dose of say 50%. If his numbers drop, you can always use honey/syrup to boost them.

Yes, it's currently 8am here, he was due an hour and a half ago at 6:30am. If I shoot now I can adjust later and tomorrow. I'll give him 3 units and monitor until I can talk to vet clinic. His normal does is 7units. Thank you so much for your advice and help this morning :bighug:
 
Looong day at the vet clinic. Jack had a fever (103.3) as well as 'clogged' anal glands, but no sign of anal gland infection. His glands were expressed. His x-rays were fine- some gas in the stomach, presumably from not eating. No signs of constipation or urinary blockage, organs looked good. Did not present as painful in any particular area of body, even stomach. Got 200mls of fluids, a shot of convenia (antibiotic), a shot of cerenia (anti-nausea), and a shot of famotadine (antacid, anti-nausea). Took a full blood panel, hopefully results by Mon/Tues. Came home with some Elura (appetite stimulant) in case he doesn't eat this evening; vet is worried about fatty liver since he hasn't eaten since last night. She also sent home some prescription food (Hill's a/d) in case I need to force feed him with a syringe.:blackeye: She did say the Elura may increase his BG but she would rather see his BG high and him eat, than him not eat and risk the fatty liver syndrome. No real diagnosis of what is wrong...she is assuming some type of viral or bacterial stomach bug but no clue how he could have caught anything. She did say it could take up to 36 hours for the fever to break if it's viral; 24 if bacterial. I offered him some different pates, which he refused, when we got home, but he did eat some Dr Elsey's kibble (maybe 10-15 pieces?) He's currently sleeping in the cat bed in the dining room. We discussed insulin dose and times and she thought it would be ok to dose him an hour early tonight. My concern is how much he eats or doesn't eat. Based on his numbers, I think I'll give him the 7 units if he eats at least 50% of what he normally would. :( Thank you all again for your thoughts, good vibes, and support. Generally, hepatic lipidosis takes more than 24 hours to develop. Usually, I would start to worry if a cat was getting closer to 3 days of not eating. It sounds like your vet covered all of the bases and is keeping an eye toward prevention.

I hope Jack is feeling better today.

He is feeling much better, and thank you for checking in. Interesting about the difference in timing for the fatty liver, she may be being overly cautious with him, and me. He's a chunky monkey and I recently lost two of my cats quite suddenly and am not over that shock and I know my anxiety was clearly showing in the office yesterday. Thanks again for your good wishes and input. :bighug:
 
Hi Christine, so glad Jack seems to be feeling better. So sorry yesterday was such a rough day for him and you. Sounds like your vet covered all the bases and he’s on his way to feeling better.
