At my most recent vet visit Hercules got a test done that tested the average of his glucose levels, and the vet said that the result indicated that if you were on insulin, they would be wanting to stop insulin at this point to see if he was in remission. Today I tested his glucose with my pet meter and it said 236. His readings are usually always in the 80 to 99 range and my vet told me to call them if he went over 200 I decided to retest before making that call, just to make sure it wasn’t a bad reading. My next reading what is 109, so I decided to do one more test and it was 120. Each of these readings were different number but two of them were in the low 100s. I am not sure if I should still try to make a call to the vet or trust the low readings, because there were two in a row after that high reading. My partner has noticed that he is seemingly urinating a little more than has become his normal, and today he hasn’t really had much of an appetite versus has every day. Last month we started him on a shot for arthritis in his back legs. The injection worked really well for two weeks and he was able to jump up on our bed again and move around a lot easier. It did seem to wear off at the vet. Wanted to do this medication again because they say that two months is the standard to see if the medication is assured me that it did not interact with his treatment for diabetes. Because he is acting a little abnormally today I am concerned, but everything has seemed so good up until now overall. I am just unsure of what I should do. I know the obvious answers called the vet, but it feels like sometimes I get more useful information when I come to this forum. I have been meaning to get a new meter, a human one, because the meter I have has concern me in the past and at this point I’m definitely going to get one ASAP. Please let me know your thoughts or if you could pass on any advice of any sort. I think today I am just overwhelmed., And I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read this post and/or make a reply.

Do you live in the US?
Most of us use the Relion human meter from Walmart
Here is the link for the meter and test strips so you don't have to search for them
Relion Premier Classic Meter at Walmart for 9 dollars

The tests strips are 17.88 for 100

Can you tell us what the name of the medication is that Hercules got for his arthritis? Just wondering if it's impact his blood sugar at all. Though it's more like to impact his blood sugars if the medication has worn off and he's feeling sore again.

Those three readings you got today, how far apart in time were they? Was there any food eating in relation to those tests? Before or after.

Is he still getting Bexacat? In your last post, sounds like there were some difficulties giving it?

Hi there, I see you said in one of your posts that you need financial help I would suggest generic Lantus
If you decide to switch we can help you

Lantus is the major brand name glargine the USA you can get generic/biosimilar glargine at very reasonable prices using GoodRx coupon. Most members use the generic because Lantus is to expensive.
https://www.goodrx.com/lantus?label...d-pens-of-100-units-ml&quantity=1&slug=lantus
Make sure that the Match your prescription pull down menue says generic glargine 1carton of 5 3ml pens.
There is no wait time test, feed, give insulin
Lantus usually doesn't kick in until 2 hours after the shot
Let us know if the vet writes the script for you because you will need U-100 syringes with half unit markings , I can tell you which ones you can use
We buy the pens but use the syringes to draw out the insulin because if you use the pen you can only adjust by full units ,we adjust the doses by 0.25 units

Also
The 5 pens will last about a year, we use the pens just like a vial, you would just insert the syringe it the gray rubber stopper on the pen and draw out your insulin
Its generic lantus

Or this one also

I see some members will call CVS, Rite Aid, Costco, Walgreen's, to get the price for 5 pens

. I paid $175 for a box of 5 pens at Walmart pharmacy, but GoodRX coupon says you can get it for around $90 if you have a Rite Aid pharmacy near you.

Just call around for the best price

A member just posted this
Allie was using the Lantus and I just switched to the generic and using the GoodRX I got 5 pens for $81.30 at Walgreens. GoodRX has a 1-800 number to assist you in using their services to get your pets prescriptions filled if the pharmacy gives you any issues.

I think I found it for you

You can read all about Lantus here, all the yellow stickys
https://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/forums/lantus-levemir-biosimilars.9/
Just take the cap off the pen and use a U100 syringes and pull the insulin out of the pen! You will see a small gray rubber stopper, insert the syringe there

Not a lot of us with experience with bexacat. I’d ask the vet for the fructosamine results to see what he considers normal bg. We say here a cat is on remission when it stays within the normal range of 70-120 on a human meter.

are you getting Walmart’s ReliOn? Are you testing daily?

I am far from an expert, but when my Corky came out of the hospital, after 5 days, The Vet explained to me that diabetic cats Bg is usually between 200-300 before dosing in the 300 then it normalizes as a plateau lower till meal dosing then back to the normal range between the 300's And I have this conversation recorded, my understanding about Vets, they keep your pet up and down on insulin, and the your cat never becomes regulated so it becomes a constant "curve ", which his BG is either too low or too high, I learned this meaning thru this Forum, and yes I strongly agree on the spreadsheet, is the only way this Forum can help thru the process without Vet bills and actually regulates your kitty, I at the beginning, I was hysterical, had no idea what to do, like I say I've only been in this Forum since August, but I can say is the best thing that's happened to my Corky and myself, he's healthy, I get just the correct advise. It's a game changer/. Do your Spreadsheet, best to you
