Well, Cooper never ate last night. He is not wanting anything this morning—besides freeze-dried chicken treats. I even pulled out his absolute favorite: chicken baby food. Nothing.

I gave the Cerenia, Ondansetron, and Mirataz, so maybe once it has time to kick in he will eat. I'm so worried about him. I will give him his shot regardless, of course, since he is so high from the skip yesterday (my fault).

I have to go into the office today, so I am anxious. I want him to eat before I leave, but I'm running out of ideas. If he will eat the freeze-dried chicken, should I just give him a handful of that? I bought some of the "dog" version that has bigger pieces. It's now two meals he has skipped.

That was my thought as well. I've put the baby food into his feeder to keep it cold, and I'm going to give him the freeze-dried chicken. My poor kitty. :(

He licked at the baby food for a second, but walked away. I think he's still nauseous. Are these the only two medications that can help him with that?

Poor baby Cooper.
Still, $3000 for US scan sounds way too high. According to PedMD, it should be around $300~$500.
Maybe call around to see?
You must be so worried and exhausted, Gabrielle.
Please take care of yourself as well.

Yes, I am thinking the same. I think it is because he would have to refer me out to these "specialty" type places, and maybe he meant after all the testing was said and done it would be that much? He mentioned they may aspirate it, send it off, etc. My friend used to work at a vet that she says did ultrasounds, so I'm going to try to give them a call today and get a quote.

Thank you! I did wake up today with a bit of a flare up of my autoimmune...hm, wonder why?:p

Bloodwork came back all normal, so at least there isn't anything else going on besides the mass.

Cooper had not eaten his breakfast by the time I came home. Perhaps he sensed my distress though because he started lapping it up when I came into the room to test him lol. Surprised he's green, but glad he recovered quickly after the skip. Maybe him not eating had a lot to do with it though.

He only ate the baby food so far, but I'm working in getting some FF into him for some nutrition after not eating for a day and a half. Ugh.

I called that other vet, but they said they could not give me a quote for the ultrasound without seeing him. So he'd have to get an office visit, they'd have to agree he needs an ultrasound, and then I would have to then drop him off there a day later to get it done. Very frustrating for me as I can't afford two more vet visits + the ultrasound itself right this moment, but surely it would be less than $3,000. I just hope Cooper can hang on while I gather funds. :(

I know this is very hard for you, but I am worried Copper is not eating enough, and you can run into more trouble if he starts getting problems from that. Have you looked at syringe feeding.?
What was his favourite food before he switched to low carb?

Yes, I did briefly look over it just in case. I'm really hoping it won't come to that because I know he'll be miserable (obviously will do it if I must).

What was his favourite food before he switched to low carb?

Frankly, literally anything edible. He used to climb the back of the chair and onto my shoulders to get whatever it was I was eating, no matter what it was.

I did get him eating some Fancy Feast. He also ate a teaspoon or so of pumpkin. Since he didn't eat yesterday or this morning, he never got his Miralax or pumpkin so now I think we're dealing with constipation again. :( He does seem more willing to eat now though. Like I said, he did eat a bit of his dinner already (after eating all of the baby food from breakfast). The baby food had Miralax in it, so hopefully that'll help!

@Angela & Cleo Hi, are you around for a quick question? I'm sorry! Cooper is at 54 right now. He ate a whole jar of baby food once I got home at 5:10pm (was supposed to be his breakfast), I gave his shot around 5:15pm, and since then he had eaten a teaspoon or so of pumpkin and about half a can of Fancy Feast. All of that to say, since it is only +4 and he's this low, do I need to try to give him the 12% carb can I have or stick with low carb for now? I am trying to get him to finish his dinner, but he is uninterested. I could try another flavor of low carb if need be. Sorry I type so much LOL.

Please do NOT apologize. Since his appetite is iffy at best, I'd offer whatever food he will eat. It's best he eat right now and worry about the carbs later.

Okay, great! He actually ate a few more bites of dinner before my dog snuck in while I went to get a better spoon and totally swiped it! Knowing darn well he was not supposed to be eating it. I'll give Cooper the options of the same low carb flavor or the 12% just to get more in him. Thank you!!

Wow. He chose the low carb and started eating it like he had never tasted something so delicious in his life. Talk about a mood swing. What in the world, Cooper. He finished another half of a can! You would think he hadn't eaten in a day and a half...oh, wait.:smuggrin: Maybe it was because he's low though!

Ondansetron can be given three times a day (8 hourly) if needed. I know it is probably hard for you to do that when you work but maybe try it when you are at home and see if it makes a difference.
Also I would give it at least 30 minutes before food if you can.

Okay, I will try giving one midday while I'm home this weekend and see how it goes. Also I will give it first thing when I get up instead, which should hit the 30 minute mark, to give it more time to kick in. :)

Ondansetron can actually be given up to 4 times a day. So you could give one when you get home end of day, and another before going to bed.

Oh, that's perfect!! Do I need to be sure it's any specific time frame apart? I go to bed early some nights (when Cooper allows, of course :p), but I wouldn't mind waiting up if it helps him.

The duration of the oral form of ondansetron is 4-6 hours. How much earlier are you thinking of giving it? It also depends on how much you are giving him. Dosing is 0.5-1.0 mg/kg of cat every 6-8 hours.

Oh, sorry, no I was just wondering if it would be possible with my current schedule for "bedtime". I'm willing to not go to bed so early if need be.

So the pills are 4mg and I'm giving half a pill twice a day now, and he weighs 9.9 pounds. If I'm going to 1mg/kg of cat, he would need ~4.5mg every 6-8 hours? Or should I go by the 0.5mg/kg to start?

The amount of ondansetron you give depends on what your cat needs. My cat is OK with 0.5 mg/kg, some need up to 1.0 mg/kg. If 2 mg twice a day isn't working, try more frequent dosing first. If that still isn't enough, you can increase the dose.
