This cat will be the death of me. Lol dramatic, but true.

This morning I gave Cooper his Mirataz (appetite stimulant) and Cerenia (anti-nausea). He was being his normal Cooper self and didn't want to eat right away. Lately he likes to have a little snooze on the bed, and then start eating after about 30 minutes. Usually he picks at it until he finishes around +2, or +3. Anyway, I came back to test him before leaving for work and he hadn't touched it yet and was dripping drops of drool (not frothing, literally just a drop, then he moves, another drop).

He was still acting completely normal and got up to greet me, just dripping little drops. Would not eat. His BG had dropped quite a bit, so that scared me. I gave him the tiniest bit of HC and he lapped at it a little, but not much. I added some HC to his snacks for the day, and gave him a handful of freeze-dried chicken treats which he did eat. I assume the drool is nausea, so perhaps the Cerenia hasn't kicked in yet?

I was so late to work, so I won't be able to even check on him now. I am trying to get in touch with my neighbor to see if she is home today and can check on him. I'm so worried that he dropped so much.

Anyway, sorry I am always typing so much on here lol. I tend to ramble even more than usual when I'm stressed.

ETA: Apparently Mirataz can cause the increased salivation, so that is a possibility. He hasn't had this issue since I started, but he's only been on it for 4 days now.

That is really a tough situation.
Hope you can get ahold of your neighbor and ask her to give extra freeze dried chick pieces and HC?
I hate to have to leave Mikan when there is a possibility of dropping.
Hope Cooper holds through the cycle! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

She hasn't answered yet, and I'm getting a bit desperate! My mother lives about half an hour away, but I'm thinking about begging her to go check at this point lol. I just know whoever goes to check will find him perfectly fine, his breakfast gone, and him snoozing, but I won't stop worrying until I know for sure.

Oh totally understandable! Ask your mom!
I know it may inconvenience her, but you do need that assurance!
I hope you don't have to spend your day worrying to pieces about Cooper :bighug:

Sending you good vibes for Cooper today! We totally understand your worries when not at home. Same here. I’m a wreck when that happens. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Well, my friend went to check on Cooper for me, and he hadn't eaten. She sent me a video; he seemed lethargic to me. I basically told my boss I had to go and came home. While I was on the way here, my friend got him eating and she said he'd perked up a bit. I tested once home and he was at 54. :( So he must have been lower than that before she got him to eat. Thank God she came over because I really had a bad feeling today that he just wasn't going to eat.

I'm not sure how to remedy this with my work schedule other than perhaps getting up at 4am or 4:30am, giving his food, getting ready, seeing if he ate, then giving the shot if so. And if he's not eating, I don't know, perhaps giving a reduced dose? I'm just not sure what's the best way to handle this.

Rather than skip or give token doses every now and then, it might make sense to get to a dose you can safely shoot twice a day.
At what time do you usually leave for work and when are you back?

What is the reason for Cooper not eating well and the nausea ? Your signature doesn’t mention other health issues. Does he have chronic pancreatitis?

That's a great question. I went to the vet this past Thursday to discuss it, and the vet seemed to think it was possibly hunger pukes (to be fair, I was thinking that was what it was so perhaps he just took me at my word). He seems to be nauseous about an hour or so before he usually eats, and would throw up yellow or white bile/foam. The vet gave me Mirataz and Cerenia which had been working over the weekend, but not today for some reason. I'm supposed to go back to the vet on the 19th (he wanted me to change the dose back to 1U, then come back in 2 weeks to see how Cooper was doing, but I opted not to do that part). When I go back then, I'm going to get bloodwork and possibly an ultrasound since the vet did feel a mass in his stomach but said it could have just been stool.

I think an ultrasound would be a good idea. :bighug: It could be stool he felt and could be pancreatitis but you want to know if there’s a mass.

You would want it done by a board certified radiologist or an internist that does lots of them. Max had one done by a traveling vet who thought he had everything wrong but pancreatitis and recommended exploratory surgery. A follow up by a radiologist a week later showed only pancreatitis. He never had cancer and lived 7 years after that.

I was honestly expecting him to say something like that because of Cooper's symptoms and also his belly looks extremely distended to me, but the vet didn't seem to worried about it or think he looked particularly worrisome. I'm hoping it won't be the case, but yes, I am definitely going to ask for the ultrasound. If anything, it could at least rule it out if it's nothing.

Trying to be proactive here.

If I have trouble getting Cooper to eat again--especially since he ate a good bit of his breakfast in midday--and he is still green by pre-shot time, what is the best course of action for tonight? I know I should still give at least some insulin and probably not skip, but I feel out of my depth when he is already green. Which hopefully he won't be, but just in case.

I’d give a BCS of 3.0. That way the first half of the cycle might be active but not the second half. If you can’t stay up (I know you have not had much sleep) you could do a BCS even if low blue. You could do a 2.5 BCS as well. My last choice would be to skip completely as a BCS should drain the depot. I’m going on for a couple of hours soon. Does this help?

Yes, that does help! I will do 3U then, if he is still low. Just for future reference, what does BCS stand for? Lol might be a stupid question!

BCS is big chicken shot. Just another name for token dose as it’s often for the caregiver rather than the cat. Some don’t believe in them for that reason.

Gabrielle if he is vomiting when his tummy is empty…which often presents as vomiting bile or white frothy fluid.
Sheba used to do this early morning and I gave her a + 9 snack early in the am, via the feeder and the vomiting stopped. I am concerned about the distended tummy. I would definitely get an untrasound.

I will try the +9 snack! I used to try to give one about an hour before, but then I thought I was contributing to his lack of appetite so I stopped.

Yes, the vet said he looked fine...but I just disagree. Maybe my intuition or I just know what he's supposed to look like better. Ultrasound for sure.
