It was explained to me that you are not shooting for the number you are at preshot, but for the number you will be at after her meal in 2+ hours.

I would give the mirtazapine now and see if she shows signs of hunger. I would give more Cerenia if she is showing signs of nausea - lip licking, smelling food and gagging or turning away with lip licking, or actual vomiting. The mirtz might stimulate her enough to eat and offset any hunger pang nausea she may have, now that the sedative side effects are wearing off.
Thanks for this information and ideas, Allie.
I gave her both meds/Cerenia & mirtaz about an hour ago. My internal med doc called with lab results so we discussed. He said to get the meds in her so she will feel better by dinner time, around 2 hours from now.
Hoping she will want to eat so I will be comfortable giving her insulin at that time.
Hoping I don’t have to syringe feed her all night long again.

She’s still very miserable looking
With no interest in cuddles or any real interaction. She must feel badly.

I’m working tomorrow so that makes it even harder with no sleep.
I’ll let you know what happens.
Thank you to everyone helping today! :bighug:

When Gadget had an adverse reaction to the anesthesia, he wouldn't cuddle me for 3 days. He was a cat that was constantly on me or needed to be carried by me, so I was worrying myself sick like you. Keep with it! You're doing great. :bighug:

That’s so sad! Poor Gadget. It is awful to see them feel crummy.
I will know when Ivy feels better when she talks and cuddles me again. But not yet today.
I just fed her s little dinner.
Will give her shot then feed small meals to see how she does.
Thanks for the support , Alli! :bighug:

Update: Ivy ate her dinner on her own, yay, (given in several smaller portions every 30 minutes) at Pmps and gave full 3 u dose.
She then ate 2 tsp snacks but at +3 had to be spoon fed. Less interested in food again. Will try to feed again in 30 minutes.

I’m hoping to use the auto feeder at +4 to +6 to give small snacks so I can try to get some sleep. We shall see how the next hour or so goes with a few more attempts at eating.
Hoping tomorrow she turns the corner to feeling better.

BG now at almost +3 is 316 on Libre. Hope her numbers come back down once her depot resets.

Does anyone know if you can take a cat’s temperature with a digital thermometer? Ivy’s ears feel hot and she’s just lying around.

How did she do with her auto feeder snacks last night? And appetite this morning?

I believe you can... in their bum though (need lubricant). :nailbiting: Someone else can confirm.

Well, the auto feeder worked earlier on the evening. But later on she stopped wanting to eat so I had to syringe feed till 1 am.
Late pm is when I noticed her ears felt hot and she was pretty lethargic. I got more worried.
I used a digital thermometer in her ear and she was under 100. No clue if that was accurate.
This morning she was vocalizing before I was even out of bed and wanting food. I can only assume that was the mirtazapine at work and doing its thing. She happily ate on her own this morning, so hopefully that will continue through today and she will round the Bend back to normalcy and eating. Fingers and paws crossed on that.
She’s continue to have loose, yucky stools, so clearly the sedation messed her whole G.I. Tract up big time.
BG is high this morning so hopefully the Depot will reset and we can get back to seeing where we are with this dose after all the disruptions of the past few days.

Hope you have a great day today with your babies and thank you for checking in on us. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

The nickname for Mirtazapine is MEOWzapine for a reason! She should continue to want to eat, I believe a dose last three days, so her appetite should stay up and hopefully it will get her back in the normal swing of things. :cat:

Oh wow I didn’t realize the dose lasted 3 days. In the past they had me give it daily I think (it was months ago, so I may be forgetting details). That’s important to know!!

You can definitely give daily! Especially with CKD, it's often recommended. I do see it last a minijjm of 48hrs in Penny and trickle off slowly til 72.
