I am so upset. This is his first ever black. He has never gotten one before. We only got down to 154 last night.

Today is day 4 on 2.5. Do I consider an increase to 2.75 tomorrow? Or wait tomorrow out and plan for the following day? The protocol says 3-5 days but this high AMPS makes me think I should tomorrow.

He hit a 95 @ + 6 back on 2.25 with a similar +2 so yeah, I do think a green nadir could happen! Go Smudge! :D

I remember those sleepless nights well. I actually learned to get bits of sleep sitting up on the couch with Hendrick on my lap, never thought that was possible. I would drift off for a couple hours from like 10-12, wake up, test...and depending on that BG, call it a night or zone out for another 2 hours and test again. Whew. Kept that up for a couple months I think.
Did you cry as much as I am now??

He possibly dropped lower last night after +5
I know black BGs are upsetting but he is bouncing so try not to worry too much.
This dose is getting him down to 86.
Have you been testing for ketones?
When Sheba fell out of remission in 2014 she had black BGs a lot so I do understand. This was before I joined FDMB so they are not in her SS although she does have several in the2015 and 2016 SS
Just make sure he is eating and drinking and has no ketones.

Trying not to worry, but that number (color) is so defeating. Seeing him get to that 86 gives me such hope.

He is eating and drinking like a champ. Day and a half ago, no ketones (it was AM rest but almost noontime when I got it). I will test again today when he gives me more than a tiny drop. His ears have not been giving lately and he does not like to sit still for AMPS because he knows breakfast is coming. He becomes a 14lb wiggle worm ready to eat!

That is great. Having a diabetic kitty who loves to eat is a real plus.
I used to worry myself sick about the high BG…..one day my sister came to visit and for 2 hours she had to sit there while I just talked about Sheba and her high BGs.
Once i joined FDMB and I knew they were caused by bouncing I was much calmer about them.

I can relate how frustrating this is!
Just when you thought you are going somewhere, and BOOM!
They go to the Mars!
But like Bron says, he's bouncing and he will come down.
Hang in there! :bighug::bighug::bighug:
514 feels like to Pluto!!! I hope he comes down gently and stays down.

Hang in there, Alli! You’re watching Smudge closely so you’re on top of it all. hoping he slides down gently today. :bighug::bighug::bighug:
Me too. Just chill out Smudge, let's stick to pink and below for a bit, sheesh.

He is incredibly food motivated, I feel very lucky. I'm pretty sure my husband is sick of me talking numbers.

That is a big drop in 2 hours. I wonder if the AMPS was a dodgy strip?
If it is was correct, then big drops like that (224) in 2 hours will cause bounces.

Don’t be surprised if you see another bounce. It’s all part of the dance. Feed lc to keep him surfing. You don’t want him under 68 and earning a reduction. If another drop at +5 then feed a little mc.

What's the reason we don't want a reduction? Just because his bounces are so high and frequent?

why would under 68 on a relion earn a reduction? Did you mean 50?

Look at those greens today woohoo! The more time he spends in the green the more chance his body will start to get used to low numbers and move toward regulation. Spending time in the greens makes his pancreas happy!

Very happy to see greens! Even the 115 @ +6 blue makes me feel better. :D

I cry a lot too, Alli. You’re not alone! :bighug::bighug:

Some cats, as they break a bounce, like to go high before they go low. Which is why we try not to react to an ugly preshot. And tell people that they can't forget about doing another test just because a cycle has a high preshot. Look what they would have missed! I also found that bounces due to steep drops caused worse numbers than bounces caused by lower numbers. As I used to tell Neko often, black belongs on the outside of the cat, not inside the blood. If you haven't already, might want to read this post: Using Food to Manipulate the Curve. Tashie really like the blacks.

She started with the AT, but just recently moved to the Relion. Reduction point would now be below 50.

The food manipulation is a good read. I'm going to read it over a few more times. Smudge already likes to eat the majority of his food pre +6 and he is very smart about his needs... He will ask me for it almost hourly. Even though he WANTS this, I may need to find what works better for him and his swings as time goes and I get more data.

311 @ PMPS
Common for him to be in the pinks at PMPS, so I don't mind compared to this morning! I also like the black to stay on the outside and not in the blood!
