Hello Everyone,
I need advise on my sweet Nestle.
He's been in remission since June 2022 and we've been doing really great. He's been in the normal range this whole time. He's been acting normal (no excessive peeing or drinking, no vomitting) I randomly tested him last night before dinner and his PMBG was 302! I re-tested and he was at 297.
I tested again this morning (AMBG 250) and again at +6 308.

I've been away from him for a month as I was visiting my family in Europe and only returned this past Sunday. Is it possible he was just stressed about me not being home which caused his BG to increase or is he out of remission? How long do I keep checking his BG before starting insulin again?

My vet has never been much help with his diabetes so I'm really depending on this group for help and advice.

What's the next step?
Please and thank you.

I don't know it it's too soon to say Nestle is no longer in remission. I can share my experience with our Tango. Tango was on insulin for about 6 months then went into remission. 6 months later, we went on vacation and when we returned his BG spiked. BG went from higher 100s into the 400a. We let our vet know. Told her that we will monitor and start insulin if BG continues to spike. She was fine with that. We started insulin again after 2 weeks. Looking back, wonder if we should've started earlier. He also needed some dental work, which was done on 8/3. So, that could be the reason or partially why he came out of remission.

At first, we thought Tango was mad at us for going away and stress was the reason. Being gone for a month, could be why. Maybe dental needed. Has he had his teeth checked?

We're going on 4 months back on insulin and dosage is down to .5U. Hopefully, he's back in remission soon.

Sending positive kitty vibes that Nestle's BG returns to normal numbers and doesn't need to go back on insulin.

Thank you for your reply and for sharing your story. I sure hope it's nothing else but the stress of me being gone. Will definitely check out his teeth and see if anything needs attention. Will also check for ketones.

In the meantime I wish Tango a swift return into remission. He's a cutie :cat::bighug:

First step is a vet visit, blood work and checking if a dental is needed. Dental inflammation/infection seems to be the number one reason cats fall out of remission. Any chance Nestle got into some high carb food/treats while you were gone? I have heard of kindly petsitters bringing over Temptations.

Good luck.:bighug:

Hi Wendy and thank you for your response. The chances of Nestle getting any HC snacks/food are low cause he was with my partner during my vacay and he knows Nestle's only allowed to eat LC FF. We don't even keep any forbidden snacks/treats/food in the house.

I will keep monitoring for the next few days and will update his spreadsheet. I really hope it was just stress and nothing more.
