9/11 Herman amps 104 +2 95, +4 110 pmps 117 back from vet, uti not suspected

Hey, for what it’s worth, the flea possibility you mentioned would be good to rule out. I’ve seen cats who absolutely mutilate themselves over a single flea. And internal parasites as well, given he goes outdoors, hunts (?), I assume occasionally eats something gross in his explorations, and if he has ingested a flea could have picked up tapeworm…

Has Ralf been dewormed recently and checked for fleas? I’m just wondering if he brought something “home” with him (It’s wonderful he came to live with you!)

Excellent points!

I gave herman a flea treatment today. And we have a vet appointment at noon to check for uti. After talking to vet she said it could even be seasonal allergies but decided best to rule out UTI.

I will talk to her about deworming etc. Herman loves stalking birds and mice but I never see him eat anything but for the odd bunny face which is a rare catch. That said my husband found a salamander in our mudroom the other day with a chewed on tail (I am traumatized by the thought)...I have to suspect herman brought it in,...do salamanders have worms?...but either way he only chewed the tail a bit - the salamander was alive and "well" (-ish) so I dont think chewing on lizards will give him worms....

I didn't apply flea treatment to Ralf yet - I thought I better ask her if its safe for him, he's so feeble.

Hi Amy, good luck at the vet! Ewww, that salamander story. Gross. You are on top of everything! I hope Herman feels better soon! :bighug::bighug:

Back from vet. Based on their visual, they don’t seem to think Herman has a UTI, but will send it off or culture either way (said only very very small amount of bacteria present but ideally should be none with cysto…), plus he had his anal glands expressed but she said they weren’t that bad. She once again mentioned the possibility of seasonal allergies, but going to start with the flea treatment he had this morning and see..… One of the vet techs said that some cats are extremely sensitive to fleas and she has seen cats stressed and the tail pulling despite no obvious signs of infestation like Herman…so maybe that’s it.

And in case this is indeed, all stress induced from our new house member we have new feliway diffusers around the house extra litter box added so a total of 3 for 2 cats and time will be the cure!
