I'm kind of wondering if the test strip from amps was bad... how could she drop 124 points by +2 if Lantus doesn't kick in til around then?

Totally possible to drop that much by +2. For some cats it might kick in at +1. With Max it kicked in around +2.5 unless he started low. Then it kicked in early. You will know with the next test if it was a bad strip.
