Did I make the right decision? (MPM/TR)

So, yesterday it looked like Beau was back on track with some good numbers. I had tried some new Fancy Feast flavors to give him some variety for a few meals. But I think they were a little higher in carb count than what he had been eating. It coincided with the creeping up that was happening with his BG. This further makes me think he is carb sensitive. Between going back to what he was eating and a .25u increase to 2.5u 7 cycles earlier, his nadirs went back down into the blues and he did have a green nadir yesterday. Because we are using the MPM protocol, I increased by another .25u this morning, putting him at 2.75u. I did so even though he had a low AMPS (143, then 150 30 minutes later) because I will be home all day to monitor. He is at 114 +4. I just want to make sure I made the right decision to increase, rather than holding. It had already been 8 cycles. Beau thanks you for your input.

I can try tagging Suzanne since she's familiar with Prozinc
About the Fancy Feast Classic Pates as far as I know they are either 2% or 3% carbs
What was he eating before the FF Pate
@Suzanne & Darcy
I can try tagging Wendy for you also but I know she's not a Prozinc user in case Suzanne isn't around
@Wendy&Neko
Thanks ladies

Sharon have you looked at the food chart?

@Sharon555

Thank you.
He had been eating mostly Turkey & Giblets Feast and Chicken & Liver Feast, with an occasional Chicken Feast or Fish and Shrimp flaked. These are all listed as 3 and below. I wanted to give him some variety with the Beef & Chicken and Beef & Liver, which are also listed as either 3 or 4. But when I checked them on the ME calculator when Beau’s numbers started creeping up, I found them to be more like 8 or 9. I quit feeding him those two and his BG came back down.

Thank you.

That's strange , I have never used a calculator and probably wouldn't even know how to use it lol
Then just stick with what you were feeding him.:cat:
Hopefully either member I tagged will come along :cat:

but I know she's not a Prozinc user
Correct, sorry I can't help with the Prozinc.

Was the ME calculator tried with as-fed values? I'm not sure how accurate it is. Chewy also has carb% listed. From production batch to batch of cat food, there is going to be some variation of %carbs. It could be a few percent different. The idea is to try to feed foods within a range of numbers, say 3-6%.

The ME calculator used guaranteed analysis %. I’ve been keeping Beau in a range up to 4%, partly because I felt he could be carb sensitive. The new foods were more like 8 - 10% and seemed to affect his BG. I just checked Chewy and they don’t list %carbs, just the guaranteed analysis of everything else.

Thank you! I just learned something. They do give dry matter %carbs if the question is asked. Perfect.

I just looked up the food my kitty is on, and found they listed the carbs and phosphorous, sodium and magnesium! It makes me want to buy my cat food from them LOL
