We ran out of Relion strips this afternoon. They are on their way and if Canada Post would just buzz when they have a package we would have them now, I even put the buzzer number in the address! DH will pick them up tomorrow from the post office.
In the mean time we have Contour Next strips and I had forgotten how bad they are at lower numbers. Took DH 11 trie’s this afternoon before Indi said no more and still no number just errors. I was able to get his pre shot number but it took 3 pokes and 5 strips  The Relion meter has only given me maybe 5 errors and they were all my fault, not quite enough blood.
DH is in for a night tonight :p

Where did you get the Relion strips? I didn't think they were available in Canada!? I have the Contour Next meter - a finicky beast indeed at the lower numbers.

oh I had no idea that the countor next gave problems with low numbers. My cat hasn't had low numbers yet, I haven't had a problem. What should I know about that glucometer? Can you tell me what happens in low numbers?
I guess more specifically, my experience has been that it will often give a false low reading. Especially if it takes a bit long to sip up the blood. Essentially, if my metre doesn’t beep almost immediately after touching the drop of blood, I just throw out the strip and start over without even waiting for the result. I don’t trust any results that have any sort of delay or require a second drop of blood. I haven’t found those to be accurate. And this might be purely anecdotal, but I find it hard to get enough blood for those low blood readings but that’s probably because Herman is quite feisty when he feels like his blood sugar is too low and perhaps his blood flow is less when low which makes it so that he’s harder to get a good drop out of.

Ok thank you very much for your answer, as we have not had many low numbers we have not had a problem. My cat at the moment does not put up resistance to the measurements.

Hope you have your reluon straps now.

My DH picked them up this afternoon! So happy not to have to worry about testing :joyful:

They aren't unfortunately but my DH has a cousin in Massachusetts so I order a ton from Walmart.com and send them to her then she forwards them to me. Really lucky to have her it's saving us a
ton of money ($25/100 strips CAD vs Contour here) and the Relion Platinum is a great meter the only thing that does not work is the Bluetooth because I'm in Canada which I miss but its worth it.

Everything that Amy said above with the addition of errors, I find with low numbers we go through ALOT off strips. Yesterday we wasted almost 15 strips to get 2 tests because of errors. Indi was not a happy boy and he is very patient with us

Hi Carole, I'm new to the forum and saw that you mentioned Canada Post. I'm in Canada as well.

I know it's difficult (if not impossible) to get ReliOn in Canada, and in your post you mentioned that Contour Next is unreliable. Would you consider Freestyle Lite?

I'm wondering because I saw that it's available at my local Shoppers. I'm currently using Alphatrak but the test strips are so expensive :blackeye:

Thanks!

Unfortunately the only 3 meters I have used are the Pet Test from Amazon, which I stopped using because the strips were too expensive, the Contour Next One and the Relion Platinum. I can’t really comment on the Freestyle but have seen good reviews so it’s worth a shot.
I loved the Contour Next One for a long time, but once we started getting down to lower numbers we found we were having more errors. It seem to start happening anywhere under 90 which was stressful because we were new to lower numbers and worried about getting a test. I think it was very accurate as long as the test was successful the first try without adding more blood.
Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful
