i am extremely concern about the erratic changes in Corky's numbers 11:00PM last night, it's a constant up low very low, this is my 2nd shot of Kero today I even fed around 10:30AM From 1 hour to the next it has gone from 60 to 142 constantly.
I just think it could be my fault since I have been using the U100 syringes this has been happening, perhaps I've been dosing wrong, I was told that for 2.5 I had to go to the third line of the syringe, I just received the U40s and the Prozinc please advise, her next feed/ dose is at 4pm I don't know if dosing her with such low numbers and up to what lowest number do I do don't dose

I'm looking at your spreadsheet and I do not see the blood glucose test numbers you're referring to.

I have no idea what time zone you're in. The reason we use "+" numbers is because we have members all over the world. The time on your clock can be vastly different than the time where anyone else is. The last test on your spreadsheet is at +5 and you recorded 185. When a test result is less than 90 you reduce the dose by 0.25u. Since Corky's numbers dropped to 54 at +3, you would reduce his dose. This is information on dosing with Prozinc. You may find the guidelines helpful.
 
It looks from your spreadsheet that you’re not giving insulin every day. I know you have the libre, is that true or have you just not recorded the missing data onto the spreadsheet? You don’t seem to be taking the dose reductions. You’re using prozinc so I’m assuming you’re following the SLGS dosing method? With SLGS, your cat earns a reduction every time it goes under 90. Based on the data on your spreadsheet, he earned 3 reductions you didn’t take. His dose should be 1.75 not 2.5, especially with those low 50’s bgs you got. You do not want to ignore the reductions and keep giving him the same dose. Every time they dip below 90, it’s their body telling you that dose is too high for them. Don’t ignore that or you may risk a hypo. I’d start giving him 1.75 as of tonight.

She’s using the libre, but he’s earned 3 reductions at least according to the spreadsheet.
 
thank you I have no idea about dose reduction I have been asking for several days my concern for the low numbers, and the days that are not recorded in the spreadsheet is because his sensor stopped working and 2 more fell off. his glucose now is 53 gave him shot of Karo and dropping the monitor has a downward arrow and at 11:49/94 and at 12:30 /142
I don't' understand please advise his next feeding and dosing is at 4:00pm

Remember that we just did his SS and got it posted yesterday so no one has been able to see those numbers until you filled them in on the SS. That is why the SS is vital for us helping any member.

Can you please update his spreadsheet? Once you test him, and then feed him if he needs it, please update the SS. It’s easiest for us to advise when we can see all the data.

I don't understand Margie the spreadsheet is filled, today as well the one missing is the 4:pm #'s but IM' so scared to dose on a glucose # that was 53 at 1:49 gave shot of Karo now is 111, then I'm told to dose 1.75 instead of 2.5
what if his #'s are as low as how they've been in the 50s-60s??

When I looked at his SS right before I posted, nothing was on there after +7. Thanks for updating. However, it’s off somewhere because you have value in +11 but it’s not 3 pm there yet. At what time, your time did you get the 111?

Sienne and I are discussing what his new dose should be and also a solution for you needing to be at work tomorrow during his regular shot time. Just take a deep breath and we will let you know before your 4 pm shot time today.

We’d like you to give 2u starting with the PM dose. If he drops below 90 tonight, please reduce the dose to 1.75u in the morning. When will you start using the U40 syringes? If you start using them tonight, please be sure you do extra tests just in case there was an issue with the conversion to U100 syringes.

For tomorrow when you have to go to work, it’s best if you don’t have to shoot his insulin and leave and we have a bit more latitude with PZ. It’s my understanding you will be home by 5 or 5:30 pm which will be +13 or +13.5. I suggest you give Corky the pm shot when you get home. That way you will be there to monitor. You can shoot at your regular time on Tuesday morning but, again, you want to monitor Corky.

I’d also like to suggest that for every single cycle, besides the preshot, you also start with a +2 test when the insulin onsets. If the BG is higher, then a mid y le test during the a.m. and a before bed test at p.m. is fine. If it’s dropping, please post on the board for assistance.

I have a few things to do right now but I’ll be back in a bit with some things for you to read which will help immensely. I just wanted to get the dosing advice to you. Questions?
 
I'm starting the U40 on the 4:00pm today so above 90 I can give him hi regular 2.5 and I still am so confused , so I can still feed him tomorrow at 4:00 pm without dosing correct? its just that his numbers are so up and down so fast and drastic I believe my head is not straight, too much stress I barely sleep when that monitor goes off every 1/2 hour telling that me his glucose goes down so low, in 15 minutes I'm checking glucose to feed and dose will ask you before dosing to be in the clear, and I am so sorry for bothering you so often, I need to get this right and when I am told I am not following by other sources I panic I still don't 'know this forum's language and detail I'm banging it with your help, I've lost 10 lbs since he got sick cant' concentrate on anything but read his numbers
 
I'm feeding now dosing 2.5 will wait till morning, if it lowers during the night less then 90 I'll give him a shot of Karo till his next dose and go from there if less then 90 will dose 1.75 correct? and not dose till I've come home in the afternoon, but I am feeding!?

I already left you dosing advice in post 11 above. It’s critical that you go back through the thread and read all the posts since you last posted.
 
wonderful! just went to fill the syringe and is a U40 .5cc/ 5/16" now I don't know where to fill to, it starts at 5
the other U40 I had, marked 2.5 exactly

all my school subjects were A my math horrible syringes never had held one in my hands

How much insulin were you drawing up using the U100 syringes?

Which of the drawings below does your U40 syringe look like? Also, look closely at the box. Does it state “half unit markings” or something like that?

I'm glad right about now about not knowing the conversion before eating he tested 102 right now is 63 and

The syringes you just got from DCIN are the U40, 0.5cc, 31 gauge, 8mm syringes with half unit marks

U-40 stands for the strength of the insulin. Prozinc is a U40 insulin.

0.5 stands for the amount the syringe will hold, in this case, a 0.5cc syringe holds a maximum of 20 units.

31 gauge just tells the "thickness" of the needle. The higher the number, the "thinner" the needle. 31 gauge needles are very thin and tiny and most cats never even feel them!

8mm is the length of just the needle.

The line that is closest to the needle is the Zero line. Each line on the right is a whole unit, like 1, 2, 3....
The lines on the left are 1/2 unit marks. So if (for example) you wanted to give 1.5U, you'd pull the plunger past the 1 unit line and stop on the next short line on the left (that measure 1/2 units)

Did you give him food? He needs to eat and not just get karo. Please be sure you give him a nice portion of his food and then retest 30 mins after he eats.

While you are waiting to do the next test 20 mins after he eats, please tell me what dose you have been drawing up on the U100 syringes.
 
i just gave him 1 1/2 small medicine syringes of Karo the monitor does not stop beeping his glucose is now reading and dropping (arrow) down yes he ate at $pm and very well indeed
 
thank God is 141 and rising, I am close to a nervous breakdown.no dose tonight and probably not the 4:00 AM that's when it also hits the lowest

They should look like this (I am NOT saying to give him 2.5 units. It's just the best picture I could find that show both the whole unit marks (on the right side) and the half unit marks (on the left)

why are the numbers change so rapidly up and down, that is my constant worry, he eats very well when dosing and in between small meals! He has good temperament, playful happy goes to his litter box twice daily, urinates well does not drink in excess as before only when he hits over 350

It is very difficult to help if you don’t answer our questions precisely. I asked (1) if your U100, not your new syringes, were 0.5u markings or whole unit markings and (2) on those syringes, how many units were you giving at the equivalent 2.5u dose for PZ if you had been using U40 syringes?

I know this is nerve wracking but you absolutely have to settle down and breathe. If you continue to panic, it makes it very difficult what you are trying to tell us and for us to help you understand what we are saying. I’m trying to figure out exactly what dose you were giving him using the U100 syringes. The pharmacist told you what the equivalent dose was but I don’t know if that was correct or not. I can do the conversion if I know what the unit reading was on the U100 syringes.

Because he still got 2.5u this morning, then his low numbers tonight were from that dose. That means I still would like you to try the 2u dose tomorrow morning.

He is rising quickly now because (1) you gave no insulin tonight, (2) you gave alot of karo, and (3) he’s likely also bouncing.

That usually means the dose is too high.

Karo is a simple sugar which gets into the bloodstream very quickly which brings the blood glucose up quickly, but it also wears off quickly which is why we suggest giving him some food too. It takes a little longer to break down, but it also stays in the body longer

I’m trying to help you with a dose for tomorrow but, please, can you answer this question above? Thank you.

Also, it will help you immensely to learn about PZ, how we know when to reduce and increase, etc, if you can read the posts at the top of this forum that are labeled as “stickys”.

Plan for today: I suggest giving him his 2u of PZ after you get back from your work training which I believe will be about +13? You can then shoot on time in the morning with 2u but please be sure and monitor.

Going forward, I would suggest continuing with 2u every 12 hours unless he drops below 90. At that point, please reduce the dose to 1.75u at the next shot time.

I looked at his SS and it’s not necessary to check him so much when he’s high. As I said before, the tests you need to have are always the pre shots, the +2, a mid cycle during the day and before bed at night. If he’s dropping, you’ll need to test a bit more often but how often depends on how fast he’s dropping and when so please post for advice.

It’s also important to please read the stickys in the PZ forum. They will tell you how to post, when to post, how to get help, and how Start Low Go Slow works. Once you have read them, please ask questions. One note: when you reply to a post, please do not type your response in the tan box. Please type it below that box in the white so we can see your response clearly. If it’s in the tan box, we have to search for it which takes time. Thank you.

no I did not dose, just gave a small meal posted numbers, I was so afraid that it would go down too much again, I did asked when I walked in, but I had no response. I will continue on 2.0 like advised at 4:00 am I received from Elizabeth the full kit with lancets reader, rice bootie, I will use that whenever I have situations with the FreeStyle2
id I make a mistake not dosing it was 6ish when I got home

Asked who? I don’t see any posts from you asking about giving insulin tonight. I most definitely would have suggested you give insulin but it’s too late now.
