I would say he dropped lower than 121 last night.
How much did you feed him? You can’t really stall if he has eaten.
This is what the sticky on SLGS says:
Until you collect enough data to know how your cat will react, we suggest following the guidelines in the FDMB's FAQ Q4.4:
Q4.4. My cat's pre-shot level was way below the usual value. Should I give the injection?
A4.4. There's no hard and fast rule, but if you don't have data on how your cat responds to insulin, here are some general guidelines.

  • Below 150 mg/dl (8.3 mmol/L), don't give insulin.
  • Between 150 and 200 (8.3-11.1 mmol/L), you have three options:
    • a.) give nothing
    • b.) give a token dose (10-25% of the usual dose)
    • c.) feed as usual, test in a couple of hours, and make a decision based on that value
  • Above 200 (11.1 mmol/L) but below the cat's normal pre-shot value, a reduced dose might be wise.
  • In all cases, if you are reducing or eliminating insulin, it's wise to check for ketones in the urine.
You did give the dose a few days ago when he was 137. It is a good idea if you give insulin with a lower than normal preshot BG that you get a BG test at @+1 or +2 so you don’t get a nasty surprise when you do test a bit later in the cycle.
It is up to you….you can skip or give a token dose. Are you going to be able to monitor the cycle closely if you do give insulin?

I gave him 4 pure bite treats. Then I tested again after 1/2 hour and he was 141. I panicked and fed him and gave him his regular dose. It was before I saw your reply.

Ok. I would change the SS and say 121@+12; 141@+12.5 and put those two into the AMPS column.
Then put in the remarks column you fed him 4 pure bite treats at +12 when you tested. Just so we know what happening. Then I would get a+2 test in just to see he is not dropping. He will probably bounce after the low preshot but test just to be sure. I am heading to bed so I will ask @Bandit's Mom to check on you a bit later. I hope you have a good day.:)

As long as you can monitor, you're good. You have shot 139 before and he headed up. He might just be one of those cats that nadirs at the end of the cycle, so you will need to get used to shooting low :-)

Don't fill him. Feed a little of his breakfast at +1 and +2. Can you get a +1?

I can monitor. +1 141, +2 177, I fed him a little.
