Hey Everyone,
I have been feeding Lucifer Weruva now for some time. Since then he has been in remission and doing well. He has an appointment for dental procedure next week.

My question is I’m looking into this new food I found for him and my other cat Tator. Tator tends to love junk cat food so I was interested in switching them both over if they like the sampler. But however, I am deeply paranoid when I give anything to him. I am trying to do the calculation for carbs (it’s been a while since I feed the same foods). I can’t figure out if this stuff is okay for him, I don’t know if I can do calculations without the ash? There is no ash listed? I will post the link to all the content information. Any help with these numbers would be so appreciated. I’ve spent an hour just confusing myself lol.

They’ve mentioned the ME% from carbs for their Beef flavor as 1%.

GUARANTEED ANALYSIS
  • Crude Protein (min) 16.5 %
  • Crude Fat (min) 12%
  • Crude Fiber (max) 1.5%
  • Moisture (max) 68%
  • Taurine (min) 0.08%
METABOLIZABLE ENERGY
  • From Protein: 33%
  • From Fat: 66%
  • From Carbs: 1%
But they haven’t listed the ME for any of the other flavors.

This thread (2021) mentions the ME for the chicken flavor as 4.7% from carbs but it’s been 2 years since so the value could have changed.

You could try reaching out to the Smalls team to see if they’d share the as-fed or ME values for the carbs. :)

@Nimi S thank you for your reply. Okay I could try that. So if that is the case then this would be okay for him?
Do you mean okay % of carbs-wise? I think so. A few other threads on the FDMB mention that the Smalls wet food is LC.

Here’s a recent online review that I found about the Smalls foods, that might help you decide. The chicken flavor seems to be around 4% ME from carbs and 5.9% on a DMB.

The reviewer mentioned these as the pros and cons:
Pros
  • Features nourishing muscle meat and organs as primary ingredients
  • Minimal carbohydrate content
  • Made from human-grade ingredients
  • Doesn’t contain artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives
  • Moisture-rich to keep your cat hydrated
Cons
  • Contains several plant ingredients
  • Uses vegetable oil instead of animal fat
They offer a sampler box for $32 with 3 flavours (turkey, chicken, beef) in 2 textures each (ground and pate). You could give it a try to see which one Lucifer takes a liking to. :cat:

@Nimi S yes as far as it being low carb and comparative to the Weruva he eats now. I’m so scared to change anything ever due to his remission. Yes I have the sampler pack coming I’m going to try it with my other cat and was hoping to try it with him too but wanted to be sure it was okay carb wise. And thank you for all your help and the link.

I totally get it. We’re on day 14 of our OTJ trial and I’m nervous as heck :D
Remission seems like a bigger responsibility than regulation. Phew!
