Ivy yesterday broke a bounce yesterday dropped to 82 on Contour meter (ear prick) at feed & shot time pmps.
We skipped insulin last night.
We are SLGS, so gave reduced dose of 2.5 units Lantus this am.
She’s dropping pretty fast today after insulin started @+2.5.
At +3.75 she’s 188 on Libre, sliding down.

*I keep thinking she needs an increase, then she bounces high, then drops to earn a reduction.

****Is this “normal”? I can’t seem to find a dose where her numbers are in a decent, consistent range (say lower 100s on Contour).

(As some of you know, I have a Libre sensor on her to watch her highs and (mostly) *lows.
I crosscheck when she goes very low on Libre to make sure she’s safe with handheld device.

She’s very feisty and will fight me, I have to limit my ear pokes so I can give her insulin or she will become combative).

Any suggestions?
Tagging a few of you for ideas. All are welcome to chime in. Thank you.

You won’t like my answer. All you can do is follow SLGS as written. Sone cats are more bouncy than others. Feed her when possible to prevent big drops or earning reductions if not seeing long periods in the desired range. That’s what helps prevent bounces and helps level cats out. Bounces are frustrating. It’s nearly impossible for a bouncy cat to stay in all blue and green I think because they earn reductions under 90. How’s she feeling? Leg healing? I see she’s feisty which for her is good. Try and concentrate on the overall picture. :bighug:

Hi @tiffmaxee. Argh you’re right. Bouncing is so frustrating. I can’t seem to get the bounces under any control. So I never know if I should be holding the dose or increasing.
And just when I think I should do an increase, she goes and drops, and then I need to give her a reduction, so I’m not sure if we’re making any progress or not. I can’t keep her in solid, blues and greens.
Her leg is healing, however slower than she and I would like. I have to keep her Isolated for her safety, so she doesn’t jump in furniture.
They think the diabetes may be making her complete healing go slower.
Plus she’s got this fur pulling situation going on. I’m taking her to the vet on Monday to take a look at that situation, but something tells me it may be behavioral.
I think she’s Anxious about a lot of things. (But that’s her nature even before diabetes as well).
When I tent her skin to give her her shot, she starts chewing on her paw, so clearly all the injections and needles and poking stress her out.
I have her on an antihistamine and low dose of gabapentin right now to see if that will stop the itching and chill her out, if that’s what it could be.
It seems to have helped somewhat, but not completely stopped the behavior.

So many complications. I feel like we’re playing whack-a-mole. And it doesn’t help that she’s a very anxious and fractious kitty. I’m used to dealing with her and her temperament, but nobody else would be able to handle her (even in my house).

I’d just love to get the glucose under some sort of control so I Don’t feel completely like she’s gonna deep dive and hypo at any moment.
But…. She is definitely clearing bounces much faster than she used to so I’m hoping that maybe that’s one step in the right direction? Do you think that’s possible?

I keep wondering if there’s anything else I should be doing to get the bouncing under better control so I could know what I should be doing in terms of adjusting her doses.
It’s never clear to me and that’s why I keep posting questions. I feel so bad, I feel like I’m driving you guys crazy with so many questions.

Yes. That is progress. For most it’s a marathon and not a sprint. It took Max a good 8-9 months to get regulated.

I know it’s a marathon.
We are almost at a year since diagnosis. You’re lucky Max got regulated in 8-9 months. Although I’m sure that felt like forever.
I don’t feel like I’m making any progress Other than seeing bounces clearing faster and longer stretches of lower numbers (then she bounces up).

Got it. So glad Max got it together for you!!
Ivy was crashing and diving constantly on TR and it was too intense for both of us, sadly. Maybe at some point we can try again.

I think you'd feel a whole lot less overwhelmed if you tested less. (There are some members here who won't believe I said that.) You are testing 24/7. I was a testaholic (as was Marje/Gracie) and we didn't test they way you are. I know it's the ease of getting a Libre reading but still, when do you sleep? It's just as important to take care of yourself as it is to take care of Ivy.

Hi Sienne, don’t worry, I just look at the Libre app and fill in the spreadsheet (since I can do that easily!!)
I’m only up all night when she is diving very low!
With the Libre 3, you don’t even scan her. It’s 24/7 monitoring. But thank you for that sentiment!!!
