Thanks! We're starting day 5 of being back up to .50 units... I hope we're heading in the right direction and won't have to raise the dose again.Nice Blues yesterday! And Great Job testing![]()
Its possibleDo you think her numbers could reflect the possibility that there is an infection?
Just remember that a cat needs as much insulin as he/she needsI hope we're heading in the right direction and won't have to raise the dose again.
Vets!!!I'm so frustrated that they can't just let me bring in a sample
Mouse has had a lot of wax in her ears, I've been cleaning them but everyday she has this now and has been shaking her head and scratching her ears
I'm going to tag Carla @carfurby (GA) who has more experience with this.I'm not sure if she has an ear infection or maybe ear mites.
I know... It's just that it feels like a victory in a way for me and Mouse when she earns a reduction and feels like we are getting further from the possibility of her going into remission when we go back up in dose and I know it's not about me but for the sake of the little bit of sanity I have left, I really need things to get better.Just remember that a cat needs as much insulin as he/she needs.

Then you're in the right place. I think almost all of us have felt that way. Confession... I still do and most recently yesterday for me.I feel like I'm screwing things up somehow...
I see those blues and greens and it's encouraging to see and then I see the occasional reds and constant pinks and I start feeling defeated again and I know I need to look at the bigger picture but I guess I don't know how. I'm working on trying to get out of "splitting" (part of my disorder that is proving to be one of the most difficult), the black and white thinking pattern... "Blue and greens! Yay, everything going great, we're doing so well, making progress!"... "Reds and purplesTry to Look at it that long stretches of Blues and Greens are the victories!
Its important that the cat is healthy
As far as remission goes, Mouse was diagnosed only 2 months ago which is very early in this FD journey. There's always hope for remission. @Diane Tyler's Mom got Tyler into remission after 2 years. And most recently see this https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/6-19-23-sunny-bear-remission.278735/ - another remission after 2 years and 2 months.
She was 4.5 lbs. @ DX she was very underweight... I believe it was 3 weeks later when we took her in for recheck she weighed 5.4 lbs and her last appointment (06/28) she was around 5.6 or 5.7 lbs. I'm not 100% sure what her ideal weight is, I know she's always been around 5 or 6 maybe 7 lbs., I keep forgetting to ask the vet what her ideal weight should be. I would say just by how she feels when I pet her she could stand to gain atleast a couple/ few more ounces. She's always been little... When I got her as a very young kitten she fit in the palm of my hand, that's why I named her MouseThen you're in the right place. I think almost all of us have felt that way. Confession... Is Mouse overweight or underweight? You want to make sure that the cat is getting the proper amount of calories for its healthy weight and age from the food you're feeding.
The thing about food smoothing out the curve is all trial and error. Feeding small snacks throughout the day is better for a diabetic cat. Mouse's SS to me looks like typical of one of a newly diagnosed diabetic.

What happened with your sugar cat yesterday? Then you're in the right place. I think almost all of us have felt that way. Confession... I still do and most recently yesterday for me.

I LOVE THIS!!! You are so kind.she was born a farm kitten and the lady asked me to take her because she was afraid she would get trampled by the goats if she stayed there.
If so, then don't be overly concerned about over feeding at the moment.when I pet her she could stand to gain atleast a couple/ few more ounces.
Oh nothing serious. She was in the high 200s for two cycles and I just felt, as we all do at times, completely defeated. In my head I know she was bouncing from the greens the day before, but I still couldn't help feeling sad about it and thinking that I did something wrong. Meanwhile, I KNOW she was just bouncing but try telling that to my emotional side. What happened with your sugar cat yesterday?
I try to help critters when I canI LOVE THIS!!! You are so kind

I think I'll stick with SLGS for now... It sounds like you'd have to be home and in the house around the clockTR is more aggressive this is true BUT there are safety protocols in place. There is usually someone on the forum to help you from "screwing up". You can always switch back to SLGS any time you want based on life circumstances. If you find that the too frequent increases are too much for you to handle, then back to SLGS it is. I will say that if the amount of insulin in the syringe is somehting that effects you, then TR may not be the way to go. For TR, I focus more on the colors in the SS and not the amount of insulin in the syringe. The more blue and greens, the better! So if that means we have to go up in dose then so be it.
Also, the reduction point is 50 on a human meter which can be very frightening at first but then becomes addictive.
Remember that you can steer the numbers by feeding different % of carbs.
but should I be waking her up to give her a snack or let her come to me when she's hungry? I feel so dumb sometimes because I'm the kind of person that needs to be told when and how much, like details on how to do these things because I don't trust my understanding of how it needs to be done.
Thank you... I definitely don't have balls of steel when it comes to this, I just don't know enough yet. Mouse never wakes me up for snacks but I always leave food out for her to eat through the night... I guess I've always done it that way since DX so I know she has food available if her numbers start to get low... of course I end up staying up to test a couple more times anyway...Don’t feel bad about asking these questions! Some people have balls of steel and may experiment with the feeding pattern on their own, but some people are too nervous, especially at the beginning, and need some handholding - which is perfectly fine too! I don’t think anyone expects you to hit the ground running. If anything, a lot of us start the FD journey on the wrong foot, thanks to all sorts of information from our well-meaning vets
My cat Shen, pre-diabetes, used to sleep through the day and would start begging for food from late evening to early morning. Once he was diagnosed, he was feeling too crummy to even beg for food and would be lethargic and sleeping all the time. So once the insulin started, I had to make sure that I was waking him up for the snacks regardless of whether he wanted them or was hungry or not.
He only started asking for food by himself once he was in better numbers. But I still have to wake him up for snacks during the day. At night, he’s active and keeps waking me up for snacks
I needed tonnes of guidance about the feeding timings and quantities. Once I had some idea of how he’d react to a certain quantity of food, I started playing around with the timing. I still ask every now and then, especially when there’s a dose change.
No worries, I am just grateful she didn't go hypo... Sometimes I have to fight and reason with myself that she'll be fine when I get a test that her BG is starting to head back up but there's been a couple of times, I think only during the day so far that she reached nadir and next test started to go back up and got one more test and her BG dropped again so she's pretty shifty like that at times!Sorry no one got to you today!
I think it would have been safe to sleep after the +5.75 but I know what it’s like to see greens and blues initiallyThe urge to get one more test in to confirm they’re still going up before shutting shop
That was a nice PM cycle though, she didn’t go too low in the greens
Good night, hope you rest well!
ETA: You held the fort well on your own!
I didn't see this til a few minutes ago... I did give .50 units this morning. On the 15th Bandit's Mom suggested possibley lowering the earned reduction BG to 70 because she was spending too much time in higher numbers during her week @ .25 . What are your thoughts?Great job surfing those greens and blues!!
Congrats on the reduction. Your new dose is .25![]()
That makes the two of us! Or is that all of us, I wonder?Side note: I guess I should be glad that our loveseat isn't very comfortable to sleep on so that's where I take my "cat naps" in between tests, atleast I know it's not to cozy so I'll definitely wake up for my alarm!
If you decide / have decided on this, you can modify your signature (and SS) to indicate this by adding a few words like ‘SLGS reduction point 70’On the 15th Bandit's Mom suggested possibley lowering the earned reduction BG to 70
