I just tested at +2 and he's at 285. Is that a bad drop for that amount of time? He got a snack at +1, but not sure how much it helped. He will get another at +3. I don't know if there is any other way to keep him from dropping low right at the beginning, and then spiking really high toward the end of the cycle? (Sorry for all the extra questions!)

When you have some time, can you look up the different foods you are feeding and get the carb %? You can use this link which is a sortable chart however, the information is from 2017. Another link is the CKD Food Chart which was updated as of last month. The CKD Food Chart was created for (as indicated in its name) cats with Kidney disease but it includes the carb % of foods.

I'm wondering if Cooper is one of those kitties that might benefit from slightly higher carbs right before or at onset. My Cleo is one of those kitties :rolleyes:.
Lets see what you have first, then we'll tag in more experienced members.

So the second link did not seem to like Fancy Feast at all, and maybe that's just for cats with kidney disease...I hope. Lol it did not seen to be recommended and therefore was not listed, only listed as a "if you must".

Yes, Fancy Feast is higher in phosphorus than what is recommended for a cat with kidney disease.

I can see the pic just fine Thank you! It seems you're feed 2-3% carbs.

Do you have a hypo kit set up with other %s for the just in case?

Hi Gabrielle, that is a big drop at +2 this morning.
I agree with Angela that it would be a good idea to feed some higher low carb foods early in the cycles to try and stop the big drops.
You might like to try a snack at +1 to see if that slows things down.
It is trial and error to see what works as every cat is different.
I would suggest noting in the remarks column the carb % you feed at the meals and snack. It can help both you and us to see what might work.

What percentage should I try for? Also would I feed the higher one just as a snack or part of the actual meal before the shot?

Yes, I've been doing a snack at +1, +3, and +5 but I guess it doesn't seem to phase that big initial drop unfortunately! :( Like you said, with trial and error, hopefully I can figure out what works!

I too had to experiment with different % carbs. It is trial and error. Maybe try getting some in the 5-7% range to feed at +1 to see if that helps the big drops and then lower and lower carb % at and after nadir. Disclaimer - it won't always work but you will eventually see a pattern over the course of several cycles. Again....more patience :rolleyes::p
