Thanks, yes, I’m sure you are right… it’s the combination of uti, antibiotics and feeling crappy overall. I just worry about keeping him safe with the insulin if I cannot get him to eat anything…if he doesn’t eat by pm shot time, I guess I have to skip it? haven’t heard back from vet yet and I am not sure if she will suggest another appetite stimulant again…Even with an appetite stimulant and anti nausea pill, mine wouldn’t eat until he got medication for pain. It’s possible he just feels a little crappy so he doesn’t want to eat much? I hope once the antibiotics kick in and start clearing his UTI, he’ll go back to normal. Come on, Herman!

It’s definitely not my favorite thing, but I did syringe-feed Oscar a few times until he started eating again. I’ll let one of the experts answer about skipping the shot, but I know that’s how I would feel too, not wanting to give insulin if he’s not eating. Especially at night. I’m just going to cross my fingers that it’s not even an issue for youThanks, yes, I’m sure you are right… it’s the combination of uti, antibiotics and feeling crappy overall. So sorry to hear about Herm not feeling wellHerman hasn’t eaten since 5 temptations laced with Clavamox and a few mouthfuls of food at 430am and a tiny amount at shot time 630am. He is extremely lethargic…very out of sorts. I will call vet once they open, is it possible he’s having a bad reaction to clavamox? I know he should get probiotic as some stomach upset is expected but didn’t want to delay antibiotics in meantime, this seems extreme reaction probiotic or not… he also got an appetite stimulant Friday at the vets office, perhaps since that’s worn off (she said it lasts 72 hours) and he needs more. I’m pretty worried.

Thats interesting - thanks for sharing...https://www.petpoisonhelpline.com/pet-tips/my-cat-on-clavamox-is-not-eating/#:~:text=The most common side effects, right medication for your cat.
Why Is My Cat Not Eating Since Taking Clavamox?
If your cat is on Clavamox and not eating, it could be due to the side effects of the medication. The side effects are typically mild and go away on their own. The most common side effects are digestive upset such as vomiting, diarrhea, and appetite loss. If your cat completely stops eating, talk to your veterinarian because your cat may develop a secondary liver condition from prolonged inappetence and discuss whether Clavamox is the right medication for your cat.
Hi Virginie - thanks for weighing inSo sorry to hear about Herm not feeling wellChewie was allergic to clavamox, she would also stop eating and moving whenever she got it, after a couple of times we connected the dots and after that she would get clindamycin instead (never had issues with that one). FWIW, my other diabetic kitty Mew is currently treated for a bacterial UTI with moxifloxacin - I had never heard about it, but her vet said it's effective against E. coli and has fewer side effects than a lot of other antibiotics. She's been on a half tab a day for the past weeks (two more weeks to go) and no side effects at all so far.
I will definitely ask the vet. She said today that she expects the culture results tomorrow and based on those results we might be able to try and alternate that might bother him less. In the meantime I am shocked at how quickly the appetite stimulant kicked in - very grateful. My poor boy still feels crummy I am sure but if he will eat I can at least keep him safer while treating.Yay!!! Good job, Amy. Herman is lucky to have you and I’m so thrilled you got to see him eat+5 39
Herman pulled a Herman and went feral after giving a lime.there was still no chance of getting him to eat anything…..gravy, temptations etc, all his favourites left out for him (because I couldn’t get anywhere near him in his state of ferality) …I’ve never seen him not eat a temptation….
….with the help of neighbours we got him into his carrier, it was like catching a wild raccoon…. and I smeared some corn syrup/ karo in the general direction of his face with a long stick
I had hoped to pick up more appetite stimulant today anyway and so just decided to take him with me to the vet (after calling them to let them know,of course).
I was Figuring if the syrup wasn’t helping then at the very least they can help if going hypo and if corn syrup worked they’d help me with a plan for the upcoming second half of cycle and give him the stimulant there.
Despite being packed the took him right away and confirmed he was over 5/90 (in the hubbub I didn’t recall the number) and was safe for now and gave him mirtazipine (he’s impossible for me to pill) and he was calming down. They sent us home to monitor…
…within an hour the stimulant kicked in. I am happy to say he just ate. I laced his pate with some 15% gravy to be safe because he’s grumpier than usual given the last couple hours and I may not be able to test much if at all. He is also thirsty which is weird for him as he rarely touches water except when numbers very high…
I expect his numbers might be higher for rest of day given the carb load….stress, who knows..
Assuming he is still eating at pmps time I will give him a reduced dose of 0.75.

.Thanks Angela, he’s eating some, not completely normal amounts though…. So I’m still nervous he may not eat enough over the nighttime cycle. His +10 has me considering a skip. You know me and my nerves! A testing day…Oh @Amy & Herman I'm soooo sorry for all this for both of you.
That 39BG is a reduction. Please reduce tonight. Let him rest and try to decompress yourself too.
I know you are not new to this FD Dance, but Herman's only been back on insulin for four days. FWIW if you're uncomfortable shooting tonight then pretend you gave a fur shot and give both you and Herman time to settle down from today's ordeal. Thanks Angela, he’s eating some, not completely normal amounts though…. Yup yup, that's what I would have done. I like Angela's framing it as a "pretend" fur shot, seems more palatable somehow, lol ...I skipped. His behaviour is a still off and he is acting hungry but only taking small licks. I was not confident I would be able to keep him safe overnight at the current BG and inconsistent interest in food. I’m sure he will be sky high tmrw from a bounce from lime and a skip, but, I think I made the right call for us.
I know, I feel like the skip is a stain on my record! Fur shot is less embarrassing.Yup yup, that's what I would have done. I like Angela's framing it as a "pretend" fur shot, seems more palatable somehow, lol ...
