*(I posted yesterday but got no response, so I am posting similar question today for clarity)

Ivy spent the am cycle on Sunday 7/16 in mostly blues and a few green numbers. (I didn’t post on Sunday, please see her SS for the numbers and her patterns).
Yesterday 7/17, she was yellow and pink after her lower stretch on 7/16.
(Numbers are from Libre sensor, 2.75u Lantus, SLGS)
Ivy seems to have a nice stretch of blue and green every few days then will bounce up for several cycles or even days afterward.
She will then come down for another stretch of blue/ green.

Does it seem she’s getting used to longer stretches of better numbers on this dose? *Several days ago I was advised to hold this dose and ignore high bounce numbers.
Question: Should we hold current dose 2.75 units?
Thank you all.

Hi Staci, I’m sorry no one got back to you yesterday.
Looking at the SS, how come you have a line of BGs after the 7/13 and another after the 7/14 with no date in there?
It looks like Ivy is bouncing from the greens five cycles ago. I would wait and see where she lands after the bounce before increasing the dose.
Is there a reason why you are not doing TR?

edit. Ivy dropped under 90 5 cycles ago so has earned a reduction in dose to 2.5 unit

Hi Bron, Ivy seems to continually bounce from lower stretches, which I guess is normal, for her at this stage. She seems to repeat this pattern.
I see the SS date error. Fixed the dates. No clue how that happened!

We tried TR and it was not working for us since the increases were too fast. I think her doses got too, high too fast on TR.
She seems to need a bit of time to settle into a dose to see how it works for her.
She was also dropping very low, for her, continuously both cycles around the clock and she and I couldn’t handle it. (I wasn’t sleeping for days on end, up all night trying to bring her up from incredibly fast, low drops and feeding all night long and testing.)

She’s not an easy cat to test continuously with ear pricks. (She can be very fractious and I need her to allow me to give her insulin. There was a time where she was even fighting me with that, so I need to somewhat keep the peace with her so she allows me to handle her when I must)

That’s why I use a libre sensor to monitor what’s happening and I ear prick when when she’s going very low, (when the libre either reads in the 40s or under or “lo” then I know she’s most likely under 90 and even lower.)
Ivy is not like many of the other kitties on here, who just chill out and allow you to pick their ear. That’s not her personality and never has been.

I added to post 2 that Ivy dropped under 90 5 cycles ago so has earned a reduction in dose to 2.5 units with SLGS.

With TR you don’t have to increase every three days. You can increase every 5 days if you would rather. The protocol says:
Increasing the dose:
  • Hold the dose for 3 - 5 days (6 - 10 consecutive cycles) if nadirs are less than 200 before increasing the dose by 0.25 unit.
    • if your cat is new to numbers under 200, it is recommended to hold the dose for at least 8-10 cycles before increasing.
    • when your cat starts to see nadirs under 100, hold the dose for at least 10 cycles before increasing.
  • Increase by 0.25 unit after 3 days (6 consecutive cycles) if nadirs are greater than 200, but less than 300.
  • Increase by 0.5 unit after 3 days (6 consecutive cycles) if nadirs are greater than 300.
So you can hold the dose for 5 days if you like. TR just allows you to not wait 7 days if you are stuck with a dose that is not working. But it is up to you. You have to be able to manage and live with it.
You are doing a good job looking after her.

That 90 reading was on the Libre, that’s why I didn’t reduce her dose.
I did not verify the 90 reading with a handheld meter because when she gets a 90 on the libre, it’s always over 100 on a handheld meter.
So I assume I hold her dose? Please confirm and thank you for the feedback and information! I appreciate your input!!
