We were doing pretty well, and now we're back in the red! Dang it lol! I have been giving more snacks now that I have an automatic feeder, and Cooper basically worships the feeder now. Lays next to it so he doesn't miss when it decides to bestow food upon him.

Does the urine I use to test for ketones need to be fresh? I find it hard to catch him peeing since I am usually not home most of the day, but I do try to clean out his litterbox each day and am able to see little puddles sometimes. Would this work even though it isn't right after he pees as long as I know what day it is from?

The urine needs to be fairly fresh, otherwise you can get inaccurate results. I think you can test up to 4 hours after the pee is done.
It is possible Cooper dropped into blue BGs last night after that 221 at +2 and that would probably been enough for him to bounce as he hasn’t seen ay blue BGs for some time.

Ah, okay, got it! I have been trying to clean the litterbox right when I get home and hoping to catch him before bed, but no luck yet!

Good point! Should I stay up and monitor for this, or is this just something that will happen until his body adjusts? Do I need to add more snacks or anything? With the feeder only having 4 programable feedings, I am doing 2 snacks each cycle: one at +1.5 and one at +5. I could go to 3, I would just need to reprogram the time each morning to be able to have to work for both cycles.

Lol sorry, bombarding you early this morning. :p

It’s late at night for me and I’m just about to head to sleep (11pm Australian time);)
If you are seeing big drops at +2 or +3 I would test again as the BG is most likely to keep dropping.
Feeding snacks is trail and error really to see what works if you are trying to ‘feed the curve’ and manage the drop.
I think a snack at +3 instead, or as well as +5 would be worth trying.
If you can stop or slow down drops, bouncing is less likely to occur. Bouncing can happen if the drop is too fast, too low or lower than the cat is used to.
You also haven’t reached the best dose yet. As you get closer to the best dose, you will get longer duration which means the insulin will last longer during the cycle.

Ah, I appreciate your response at such a late time! Sorry to bombard you before bed then LOL! Definitely get some sleep and don't stay up on my behalf!!

That is good information, I will definitely keep an eye on him. I'll set some alarms through the night, and change the snack to +3 just to see how it goes. If it seems not to be working, I'll add back the +5 for three snacks total. He definitely keeps me busy!:D

Have you thought about swapping to tight regulation? You are testing enough and looks like you are not feeding any dry food.
Being able to increase after 3 days instead of 7 if needed, will get Cooper into better numbers more quickly.
It is a more aggressive method than SLGS. Have a look at the TR dosing method HERE

I do remember you mentioning it, and I almost convinced myself to try, but then I got scared again! I don't know why I'm so intimidated by it.

I am glad that I test enough because I was worried I wasn't testing enough even for the current method. So I see that method says test "multiple times" a day. How many times? I just worry on days that I am unable to test more than 3 or 4 times...is that still enough?

My biggest concern is that I don't understand his patterns or the numbers enough to kind of predict how he will react. I don't believe in myself basically  LOL I still feel like I don't really know what I'm doing sometimes!
