Totally frustrating. Not only am I not seeing any blues, but she’s back in the pink for the first time in quite some time. I have all kinds of reasons going through my head of why it couldn’t be, and of course, all these little things happen at the same time such as:
1. Yesterday I was out most of the day, so she was free feeding, which means she probably ate all of her food in the first hour I was gone and went 10 hours without eating.
2. Of course, I dropped the glucometer on the tile right before the test, so I did a control solution test to make sure it wasn’t wonky which came out normal, but the low battery icon was coming up. So I change the battery. Did another control solution test which you’re supposed to do every time you change the battery or open a new pack of strips. which of course I just opened a new pack of and at some point they change the prime strips (they used to have a hole in the middle of them for some reason and now they don’t, but the ones I got I guess or some of the leftovers that have the hole in them. But they seem to be working OK there a long way from being expired.
… I also have a rely on Premier classic which I have also been testing with side-by-side the past few times, and it’s close enough that it leads me to believe the glucometer is correct.
3. Yesterday I caught her on the chair and she “almost” got into my sons desert. I didn’t think she did but who knows maybe she got a couple licks of whip cream… for sure today she ate about a teaspoon or so of mayonnaise, that she knocked off the counter somehow. I thought the counter was safe because she can’t really jump much anymore but I guess where there’s a will there’s a way.
4. Starting to wonder if there’s something wrong with the insulin. It’s probably just paranoia, but I have left the insulin out a couple times after giving her her shots while I was half asleep. I know they used to think that Lantus was extremely sensitive, but not quite so much anymore. The longest it’s been left out was maybe five hours or so, but I can’t be sure it’s definitely never been left out overnight or anything like that.
I don’t know what else would bring her back into the pink I guess I’ll have to keep an eye on the numbers for the next few days, but I really wasn’t expecting this
NOTE: my biggest concern really is if the insulin were compromised. That worries me because if that were the case, and I got a new bottle of insulin who knows if she’s on way too high of a dose because this one hasn’t been working. That’s probably not the case but God forbid.
You see the thing is before she was even on insulin. Her levels on a pet glucometer were in the mid 400’s, so it’s like we’re right back where we started.
Don’t know what to think. Aside from all this at once. Driving me nuts.
I know she’s not in the blacks, etc. but she never was in that area so it’s just confusing. Back to where we were… Yeah, I hope not permanently and it’s just temporary bounce but a real bummer.
