Hi, I'm DWF from North Carolina and my cat is Sam. Sam is 14.5 years old and has diabetes and asthma. Also, he was born with his back legs turned in but gets around great, just can't jump up onto things. But it's always my pleasure to help him.
My concern is with the reliability of the AlphaTrak3 test strips. I've read when comparing BG samples of the 2 (2 being the primary) and 3, the numbers are very dissimilar.
Has anyone else experienced this? My vet and I are both currently using the 2 but I know at some point he'll switch to the 3. When that happens, would I also need to switch or could I continue to use up my supply of 2s?
I'm real concerned about the reliability of the AlphaTrak3. I appreciate any help you can give me.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I don’t use the alphatrak meters. It would be worth your while changing the subject line to something like “new to this site. Need information about the alphatrak 2 and 3 meters”…to gain attention.
However, if you vet changes over to the 3 meter, there is no need for you to do the same.
Most of us here use the human meters and the vets use the pet meters.
As long as you are consistently testing with the same meter, I can’t see a problem.
Do you have a spreadsheet set up?

Thank you for your response. Which human meters are the most popular with members on this site? How would I know what the setting should be for a cat?
When you ask for a signature is that the same as an avatar? Thanks.

HELP US HELP YOU has the link to the signature and spreadsheet. The signature is the writing that appears under each persons post and tells us about their cat.
A good human meter is the ReliOn Premier from Walmart.
When using a human meter you do not need to make any adjustments to any settings. The human meter reads a little bit lower than the pet meter.

The signature is the description that is below a post. It includes information such as the name of your cat, your name, which insulin you're using, etc. The content and how to add a signature is in Bron's post (#5 above). The avatar is the photo of your cat.
