My cat is in remission, can I leave some dry food for one day?

Hello everyone,

I wasn’t sure if I can leave this question on diabetes page. My cat went remission July last year. I have been feeding him wet food only. But I do have to make a 16 hour trip and no one can take care of him while I am gone.

I can leave wet foods for him. What I am worrying about is I have another cat and she is very very very picky eater and only like to have dry food. So I do have to leave dry food for her while I am gone.

I am 100% sure that my diabetes boy will try to take that dry kibble. I am wondering if it is ok to have one time dry food consumption for cat in remission.

I do have to make a trip from early in the morning, 3am and when I come back it will be around 6~ 7 pm. I didn’t have any long trip until now since he was diagnosed with diabetes.

Any advise will help.

Confine each cat to a different room with water, litter box.
Leave dry food for the one cat.

Get a timed feeder that has multiple compartments and a place to put ice packs
for the canned food and set the food compartments to open every few hours while
you are gone.

Yes, time feeder. I should have bought it many month ago and I haven’t bummer.
I will definitely get this timed feeder with ice pack. thank you for your suggestion

If you MUST feed dry food, make sure it is only Dr. Elsey's clean protein which is low carb -- or Young Again Zero Mature food. The food that you can probably get most quickly is the Dr. Elsey's Clean Protein Chicken Flavor (from Amazon.) But I like the timed feeder and wet food idea better.

Thank you Suzanne for your reply. Ok I will also take a look at that low carb dry food. My other cat, Danchu likes Glycobalance from the Royal canin I will try that brand and hopefully this picky girl likes it.

Yes it is. Gumung, diabetic cat needed help with food balance to get his sugar down, I have tried a lot of food. I did cut that dry food and did not gave him dry kibble ever since I joined this community. But my other non diabetic cat tried and she is hooked with this and can’t seem to find other dry kibble she likes. I did talk to my vet and he said its fine, so I have to call him to order this girl’s food everytime I am out. And yes, it is very high in carb so I always check her sugar along with my diabetic cat that went remission.
