6/16 Mikan AMPS 275, +2.25 200, +4.5 133, +7 202: PMPS 318, +3 302

Keep us posted Kit! Sending all the good JuJu . <3
Thanks Deb.
Mikan's brother (Yuzu) will spend there overnight. They are giving him fluid and meds. His Blood urea nitrogen is elevated and we are hoping to bring this down. He is a bit neutropenic but the numbers don't look too bad. There is a possibility that he will have to stay there longer, but I'm hoping that he can come home tomorrow after 24 hour therapy. Of note, his glucose was 130mg/dL - high normal. I assume that stress and the urinary condition pushed the number a bit high. Poor guy. At least we caught it early. Did you have an experience with this?

I did, but my situation was far worse than what you have going on with Yuzu.

My very first cat, Moe, apparently had urinary problems, but at the time 2 decades ago, I was not experienced and didn't know the signs. I had to forgive myself and used it as a learning experience. As a result I became a hypochondriac with my animals after that.

It sounds like you got him to the ER in time to avoid anything catastrophic.

I'm not sure about the BUN, Luigi did have crystals in his urine, but he never had a blockage, and what the vet deemed idiopathic cystitis.

Have they mentioned a special diet for him?

Deb, I'm sorry that it was such a hard experience. It is indeed a scary problem. My mom's cat experienced this a few decades ago and although he survived and never had a recurrence, it was a traumatic event for all of us. What happened must have been imprinted in my head somewhere and came right back when I saw my Yuz boy struggling in the letter box.

Well, Luckily, he was stable enough to come home tonight. I just got him back. He's cleaning himself like a mad cat but looks happy to be home. We don't have the detailed urine labs back yet, so I don't know exactly what kind of problem he had, but the vet said that he was able to pee on his own.

Yes, they talked about the diet and gave me some samples. I did tell them about Mikan, but they did not seem to heed that much. I may be jaded about this, but when it comes to the feline diet, I'm not sure how much to trust them. I'm gonna do may own research on this topic. Any suggestions will be very very welcome!

Mikan's not doing that well tonight. But I figured, I can't have everything. I have all my four babies happily roaming around the house and I can't ask for more.
This kind of experience really teaches you what's important in life, doesn't it.

Love to you and Sly :bighug::kiss:

I'm so happy you have your baby home :bighug::bighug::bighug:
this is a great site https://catinfo.org/feline-urinary-tract-diseases/ with a LOT of information on all types of urinary issues. Hopefully the labs will be back soon so you have a better direction for treatment.
Thank you Angela! I'll read the page very very carefully. Information is the best defense we can have!

One of the keys seems to be water intake. I'll look into how I can make sure that Yuz boy drinks enough. I have three auto-water fountain and 3 other water dishes but there may be more I can do!

Hope you and sweet Cloe had a wonderful Friday :) Give her a nice chin rub from me :bighug:
