Still trying to help Max feel better. I think the Gabapentin helps his pain but he’s so drowsy on it. He has Bupe too and I can alternate those. I’ve read that cats can salivate more when in pain and the drooling has gotten better since I’m keeping him on pain meds. I’m still not sure if it’s his mouth bothering him or if it’s this constant state of pancreatitis he stays in.

It’s sad that this beautiful ginger boy I have has the sweetest soul ever but has so many things going against his little body. He doesn’t deserve any of that. It makes me sad to think about it much so all that I can do is try whatever I can to help. Extra cuddles included.
I almost hate that vacation is next week, even though I am excited about it for DH and me. I really dread put Max through the whole thing when he’s feeling bad though .:( Maybe things will turn around soon and we can all enjoy it. I hope so.

Hope everyone has a happy Monday

Poor Max. I've also heard there is a certain amount of pain associated with acromegaly, whether it be growing pain, or headaches. At least humans report the latter. And then there's the arthritis, if they have it. It's a very unfair disease. Neko was on bupe full time, it made a huge difference to her QOL.

@Wendy&Neko I’d rather give Max Bupe full time, but I get it from the vet and it’s rather expensive. They usually give me 8 doses at the time so I give it to him if he’s having a bad day and looks uncomfortable. In the last few days he’s really felt bad. The Gaba helps but it knocks him out. With the Bupe he’s more active and happy. I wish I could get it for him full time. It sure would help. I’m not sure if there’s a cheaper way to get it for him.

I bought vials of buprenorphine from a compounding pharmacist. Chicken flavour too. Much cheaper and more convenient. I would get 3 months supply at once. I have heard of members in the US able to do the same thing. It's a restricted med, so here at least, the vet has to use a special prescription pad for tracking. Worth talking to the vet about that option.

Gaba knocked Neko out too. They are supposed to get used to it over time, but that didn't happen with Neko, so I stopped a trial of it.

@Wendy&Neko it’s a controlled substance here as well. Thank you for telling me that about the compounding pharmacy. I have a nice one here that’s close by actually. I will ask the vet tomorrow when they open. I hope they can get him in tomorrow, maybe she can figure out what’s wrong. It may just be pain from acromegaly, but I know he has pancreatitis flares too. I want his teeth and gums checked, but I’m going to speak to the vet either in the office or by phone call tomorrow. Thanks again.

I'm sending love and good JuJu for Max, Lori.

My late Luigi was not an Acro cat, but he had several comorbidities, and it was hard. I can relate and feel for you.

Even if he's not 100%, I still think taking him with you is a good idea. At least you will be with him and can monitor him while you're away. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

@Deb and Sylvester thanks! Max is definitely coming with us. He’s way too much for anyone I know to take care of him. Plus my anxiety will not allow me to leave him.

My mom had a Siamese cat named Luigi when I was a child. I still remember him and I have a picture of me holding him. I’ve always loved a cat! Anyway, I hadn’t heard of anyone else’s cat named Luigi. That’s ironic.

We suspect Luigi was part Siamese. He was all black except for a little white locket on his neck. I called him the Reverend!

I love all my cats the same, but Luigi was surely a very special boy, so friendly with everyone. I always thought he was more like a dog than a cat.
