La-La Leo (GA)

Member Since 2021
I'm several days behind on SS, but PMPS=48; it's shot time, but looks like I need to stall, yet Leo's under 50. I was going to test again in a few min, but I normally would give HC, but I need to test again. This will be his fourth time under 50; first diagnosed/first shot Jan 2022.
It's his usual shot time right now.... Test~Feed~Shoot

What to do?

I’m not an experienced member, but I wanted to respond so that you don’t feel like you’re shouting into the void. I think you can skip this dose if you don’t hear back from someone with better expertise soon and if you’re not comfortable shooting when Leo is already so low.

Thank you! I relate to what you said about the void. Now I'm worried for the awesome helpers here. I was thinking the same thing about the skip. Have never skipped, but also haven't shot a 55. Thanks a bunch.

I'm also not experienced ... I'd advise stalling until someone more experienced comes on - I did that this morning and decided to skip a dose (I follow SLGS). Keep testing to be sure cat doesn't go too low. You don't want to risk hypoglycemia - that involves an emergency vet visit.

Going forward, you might want to get some BG readings at +10, +11, and even +1 - according to page below, that helps you know how your cat responds. People have also advised me to try to get some readings after the PMPS, and even in the middle of the night.

How to Deal with Low Preshot Numbers(the following guidelines apply to those following the Tight Regulation Protocol only):
  • If the low preshot is not part of that cat’s normal pattern or there is reason to think something might be wrong, we will be more conservative
  • more at link above.

With the low pmps you needed to feed a couple teaspoons of lc and test again in 30. Am I understanding correctly that you fed hc? If so that’s influencing the rise in bg. I would not shoot and monitor for the next two hours feeding lc but your ss shows 1.5. Did you shoot?

I saw where I DID shoot low earlier this year! 1/4/23, Leo was 50 and then 55. I went ahead and reduced by .25, even though Leo is no longer considered newly diagnosed. He hasn't dropped under 40 except for an out of the blue, 28, on 3/16/23! That may have been a bad strip, but this has never happened. 40 min late and a .25U reduction. I'm sure reducing was wrong per protocol. I need to find a pep talk because this is all so discouraging. :blackeye::confused:

Ok. It’s true after a year you reduce if under 40 so all is good. Stalling can result in the bg dropping so feeding and shooting was fine. I saw the 3 times under 50 and was worried it took too long for a reply. You can go back up in the morning if you want.

I am sure that pmps caught you by surprise! It would have caught me by surprise.

You never want to shoot if the bg is under 50 though. So when this happens again feed a teaspoon or two of lc and check in 30. That 55 was influenced by hc so you need to get a +1 and +2 and probably test more often tonight.

I will check back.
