Cierra”s hair shaved on the back few months ago for set Freestyles libre . It’s been a while but hair not growing up.

Any reasons cause why it didn’t grow up?

How many weeks since it was shaved?
Have you been putting the libres in the same place?
It’s More than two / three months

No didn’t put same spot, always changing the side, ones vet shaved below the neck, (on back ) now it’s nearly 4 months, still hair not growing.

In any of the places?

It is not uncommon for diabetic cats to regrow fur slowly. I remember years ago discussing this with one of my cats who had a spot shaved for a medical reason (I do not remember why but this was maybe 15 years ago) and the vets said it is not unusual in diabetic cats. I attached a Libre to my Merle in February and his fur is growing slowly.

Thank you for sharing your experience Larry. I was worried about this. Thank you again…!!!

Do you see any signs of the short fuzzy “undercoat”fur growing in? It can take months for the fur to regrow, but there should be at least some really short fur/fuzz in the spot unless something else is keeping it from growing in (overgrooming, skin irritation, etc.)

Hi Suzanne, thank you for your reply. Yes I can see short fur here and there, some of them growing fast . Some spots still bold . Thank you Suzanne..!!!!

Hi Din, as Suzanne says the shorter, fuzzy undercoat is the first to grow.
My groomer (she does cats only and fosters kitties) is quite knowledgable in many things medical for cats. I think she is a 'cat fur' expert ;). My Kitkat's coat coat is normally a deep rich orange, and I noticed his coat was fading in color, he was turning a much lighter orange and his coat was much thinner. She explained it this way.... it is very common for sick kitties (diabetics/ other longer term illnesses) to start to loose their coat thickness. Sick cats continue to shed normally, however the body slows or even stops hair regrowth (especially the longer over-coat) and redirects the limited energy to more vital functions. The fur thins and typically looses its rich color. The soft fuzzy undercoat (which is shorter and lighter in color) is the first to regrow (it is needed to keep the body insulated). As health returns the coat begins to regrow normally.
Kitkat is now 1 month in remission and we are now just starting to see that his coat is slowly beginning to thicken and darken up a little bit. She says this can take a few months or longer and is a very normal thing. :bighug:
(I never did shave a spot down to the skin on him.... but can imagine it would take time to regrow. )
