Hello all, last night Bambi's BG levels started acting really unusual with a high PS of 333, and then a sudden drop to 93 at +2 all the way down to 50s after +3. I only gave her 2 extra snacks to increase her BG in between and although she was close to safe levels throughout the night, it does seem pretty unusual. Today I lowered her dose by 0.25 as the SLGS protocol advises and her new dose is 0.75u.

I'm aware of the term ECID but this seems a bit weird having highs in the 300s and dropping to low levels below 50 in a matter of few hours, especially when her dose has gone down so much from where she started to a lower value than 1 unit, so I wanted to get some opinions.

Btw, I haven't been able to transition to 100% low-carb wet food yet, she's been on the same diet for a little less than a week now at %50 Proplan DM dry (16% carbs) and 50% low-carb wet food (4-7% carbs) except slightly lowering the quantity these last few days as she has started gaining weight considerably.

Thanks.

Those ups and downs are quite common with cats and it can happen fast especially if coming off a bounce. Are you lowering the amount of dry I hope?

She’s responding really well to lantus and if you keep decreasing the dry I think she has a really good chance of becoming diet controlled. I suggest you look at the spreadsheets of other cats and you will find rapid drops are quite common. Quick drops and bg lower than used to cause many to bounce. Bounce clearing cycles or the following one can lead to a flat lantus cycle like you saw last night. What did you feed her at the extra feedings and how much?

Have you looked at the spreadsheets of others? That helped me.

I still have trouble determining the bounces but good to know if it looks common. I have lowered dry to %50 as I mentioned, was aiming to lower it further but had to delay a bit since I have 3 cats and it's taking a bit longer to adapt to the logistics :)

That's great to know. Being inexperienced and seeing the highs often makes me think I'm doing something wrong or it's not being as effective as one would wish. I do check other sheets occasionally but the ones I see at lower doses were mostly more stable levels and on treatment for a long time. I will check some more perhaps.

Regarding yesterday I didn't overdo it since she barely fell under 50 mg/dL. I gave her 7g of usual dry (16% carbs) and only 1 teaspoon of high-carb liquid snack (25% carbs) at low numbers. After that, she started to rise on her own. It wasn't as bad as the episode earlier where she was down to 30s and I had to feed her about 6-7 times...
