At the vet now they just took him in for blood and urine. He does need a dental but he wouldn’t let her get in and look at his back teeth so we won’t know how bad he is until he goes in. She said she does see some tartar and a bit of inflammation. Really want to tell her I’m not here for his diabetes just do the blood work! She is very nice but not supportive of daily testing and was shocked he is not being managed by a vet. I told her our previous vet gave bad advice and we have been managing his diabetes ourselves. She didn’t want to look at spreadsheet just said I could send her a day of testing and we could go from there. When I told him he is on a raw diet she kind of cringed. Almost suggested prescription diet but I think she caught herself.

None of this surprises me!:rolleyes:
Don't share the spreadsheet. We've had folks being harangued by vets about dosing after looking at the kitty's SS. In fact, don't even get back to her unless she remembers and asks. Hopefully she will stick to the labs and dental!

Lol I knew going in what to expect but even though I warned him my poor DH!! He is so proud that he is testing and I’m so proud of him!!!
She asked how often we test and before I could say anything hubby jumped in and said I make sure I test every few hours…he looked so pleased with himself!!! :)
… she on the other hand, looked horrified, told him we were placing Indi under undue stress and pain and causing inflammation to his ears to which I responded OK so can you just do the blood tests?
She was very upset that he is not managed by a vet and told me that I had to be very careful because diabetic cats can go into remission to which I replied absolutely! That’s why I test him as much as I do:stop:
A tech came back with the estimate for his dental, and I saw there was nothing on there for glucose monitoring so I asked, the vet tech insisted it wasn’t necessary I insisted it was and explained that diabetics can have reactions to anesthesia and I’m very concerned with him becoming hypoglycemic. She was insistent that they would monitor is blood pressure and there is no need to poke as much as I do. (So I know they were talking ****) so I told her I would discuss it with the vet. She went away and came back and said that the surgical team was available to take a look at him so they did and the vet came back and said unfortunately, because he’s diabetic the risk of him being hypoglycemic under surgery is not some thing that they’re comfortable with and referred me somewhere else that has a specialist dental surgical team o_O
I am going to create a copy of my sheet with limited info to send her in hopes she will learn from it but I’m not expecting much.
It is scary that people blindly trust these vets, I’m so grateful I found FDMB and you Bhooma!

Seriously???! Oh well, if they aren't confident, you are better off elsewhere!

I know! I was one of them till Bandit's DX. Now I find it hard to trust vets. I think I've rubbed several the wrong way! :nailbiting:

I had to read then re-read your post :spam:. I am horrified on your behalf. My Vet said something similar about over-testing and stress, blah blah blah . Going to the Vet is more stressful that a poke and treat. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
I had to re-read it too ... like going into remission would somehow be a bad thing?????
I'll bet most cats would take treats and testing over a vet visit any day. Otherwise they wouldn't purr all the way through it!!!
