Syringe confusion RESOLVED (Syringe is marked 1cc, not .5cc)

Here I am with another thread. Please let me know if this is better merged into another of mine.

The vet gave me five syringes and told me I'd need to order more (Vetsulin, so U40 1cc 29g 1/2").

I went to three pharmacies in town and no one had them. I ordered these from Amazon (Brandzig). They aren't marked in the same way. There isn't a 5 marked, but I think the start at 10 and the lines are on either/or side of the centerline. But I'm not sure how to land on 1/2".

I took a photo to compare with the ones the vet gave me - will post next.

Apologies! The one on the left is the "new" one. The number you see (4 3 2 1) are "40, 30, 20, 10". those are the only numbers.

Will take another photo to upload. It will take a few minutes.
 
I'm sorry for the delay. User error. The close up photo is here with the first photo here. I think the lines to line up, but the one on the left (the new one) has lines that alternate on either side of a center line until you get to unit 1. I think unit 1 is between the top centerline and the line by itself at the top of the syringe. If that makes sense.
 
The new ones look like 1/2 unit syringes but I would not use them until you are sure they are the correct ones.
The caps look to be a different colour as well.
How many of the old ones do you have left before you need to use the new ones?

I don't have any - the old one was used already.

No one has them locally and I was about to test and feed.
 
This is from the Vetsulin guide
  • A note on U-40 syringes: If you are using a U40 insulin, you must be sure you are using the correct U40 syringes. In the United States, these syringes usually have a RED cap, but the cap color may vary, depending on the manufacturer or where you live in the world. U40 syringes are also available that show half-unit markings, making dosing easier as you are fine-tuning the dose.

Here is the syringe on the left:

When I look at the syringe closely, I see:
topmost line = 0
first half line on left = 1
fist halfline on right = 2
It looks like odd units are marked on the left and even units are marked on the right.

I'd like to hear what other people think.

The direction was to get U40 1cc 29g x 1/2" syringes. The box is labeled U40 20g 1/2" 1cc, as are the individual syringes.

When the nurse showed me how to use the one on the right, she told me to estimate between the 1 mark and the 2 mark - she said to go to 5 and then count backward until I hit the 2 mark, then go halfway.

Have actually just been giving .75 cc?
 
It's similar by this box is the 100 value pack.

The syringe she gave me has marks in units of 5-10. So I do think I was giving 1.5 units.

But I think the new syringe is units of 1 cc. -not 1/2" marks. I believe you're correct in that odd marks are on the left and even on the right when I compare the two and NOT 1/2" units.

Both do have red caps.
 
I am not experienced with U40 syringes at all so don’t like to give an opinion.
Can you stall until we find out for sure?

Thank you and yes.

I'm reading reviews and some are saying that these have 1cc marks and not 1/2" as advertised. It does appear to be the same size as the need my vet gave me.

Try an experiment?
Take one of the used syringes and fill it to the 10 unit mark with coloured fluid or milk.
Squirt the fluid into a shot glass.
Fill one of the new syringes with the fluid.
The amount of fluid you pick up should be very close.

They don't fill neatly out of a plain glass. But I do have a syringe I use for ink and they both appear to hold the same amount.
